Aurangzeb – Power Corrupts

Aurangzeb – Power Corrupts

Taj Mahal movie had Mughal emperor Shah Jahan & Jodha Akbar had Akbar but the movie Auranazeb doesn’t have Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in it. Though the film is named after the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb it has nothing to do with Aurangzeb. Most of us have heard the line "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." This movie is about the people intoxicated by power & engaged in unlawful activates.

Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have. Aurangzeb is an action crime thriller which starts from Gurgaon a small city grows into big city in just fifteen years & all the credit goes to Yashwardhan Singh (Jackie Shroff), runs a crime mafia under the guise of his real estate business. Ajay (Arjun Kapoor) is the smartest player. Senior Police official DCP Ravikantha (Rishi Kapoor) with his team Arya (Prithviraj) and Dev (Sikandar Kher) manage to kidnap Ajay and replace him with his look-alike, Vishal (Arjun Kapoor) to destroy Yashwardhan’s empire of crime. And in between Ajay and Vishal get to know that they are twins who got separated at the time of their birth & rest of the story takes a predictable turn.

As far as the performances are concerned, Arjun Kapoor after delivering a decent performance in Ishaqzaade, he is back with a bang. It is too early for Arjun to play dual role, it’s only his second movie but he acts well and has sure put in a lot of effort, but not impressive enough.

It’s Rishi Kapoor who manages to steal the show with unpretentious and honest performance. As usual he spells magic on screen & gets into the skin of the character he plays and shines in each and every scene. Adds another feather in his cap & in one word, he is extraordinary.

Sasha Agha, daughter of actress Salma Agha plays Arjun Kapoor’s love interest and she does her job quite impressively. Prithviraj gets a decent role after Aiyaa. Jackie Shroff as the conniving mafia is at the best of his act & the veteran actresses Amrita Singh, Deepti Naval, Tanvi Azmi are all excellent in their respective roles.

Director Atul Sabharwal’s idea is good but the execution falters. His narrative style does confuse the viewers at places & the script holds very limited appeal. Atul’s story is little complicated and has lot many characters, it’s difficult for the viewers to remember all the characters.

The music of the film is composed by Amartya Rahut and Vipin Mishra, lyrics penned by Puneet Sharma, Manoj Kumar Nath and Vipin Mishra. Music The music of the movie is average and some songs look forced in the movie. Barbadiyaan song sung by Sasheh Agha and Ram Sampath is the best song. Jigar Fikra is another good track. Atul’s dialogues are fresh, meaningful & engaging, Niraj Voralia’s editing could have been better.

On the whole, the film has some wonderfully written sequences followed by stray moments that aren’t that convincing. Aurangzeb is little long and tedious to entertain. It has a subject which not many would be interested in watching. The film falls into predictable zone. Watch this movie if you don’t have much to do this weekend, otherwise wait for the DVD or Television premier.
