They score at mind boggling speed of a Ferrari; they rattle stumps like a seasoned Timber hacker; they poach catches with the precision of a king fisher, their sledging will put the local hooligans to shame. They are the ultimate mean machines. This is a fantastic combination on any resume?. Read Aussie Cricket Team here
Aussie cricket has always been different from rest for the simple reason that their attitude has always been positive something which other teams lack. It is their positive attitude that took them to that glorious win over the Windies under the leadership of Mark Taylor.
Their ability to adapt to almost conditions makes them crowd pullers. The scorching pace at which the runs are scored, balls hurled and catches pouched are seen to be believed.
Traditionally Aussies have had wonderful players ever since cricket evolved. Right from Charles Bannerman through Bradman through Riche Benaud through Chappell Brothers and now the current lot. They were all truly great.
In a sense it is apt that the current lot is carrying the legacy with aplomb. Hayden, Langer, Ponting , Martyn & Gilchrist can really set the pace with their stroke play.
Glen the pigeon Mcgrath may be in the twilight of his career, but he can really pack a punch in his bowling and verbal abuse (ask Sarwan). Bret (the Bomber) Lee, Jason (Jesus look alike) Gillespie and Brad (Bad) Williams are all match winners in their own right. Warne can turn the ball from nowhere to anywhere (recall Gatting?s dismissal). He has not performed well in India and I hope it remains that way.
Talent and attitude apart there is some thing which Aussies need to delete from their resume and that is Sledging. Chappell Brothers made it mandatory for Aussies to sledge; the tradition has ever been carried forward with no captains actually trying to curb this phenomenon.
It is heartening to hence know that Ricky Ponting is trying to curb this aspect of Aussie cricket.
The standards set by the administrators of the CA is really bearing fruits, Backups like Michael Clarke, Simon Katich or Andrew Symonds are the result of excellent talent hunting team and grooming standards.
BCCI please note that filling coffers is one thing, providing final results is a different ball game altogether. BCCI will do well to take notice of this Aussie administration.
One way of being successful is by being accountable for ones action. Accountability comes with responsibility& responsibility is not necessarily restricted to on field actions, off field activities also are part of it.
Team Australia gained this eternal fame by sheer hard work and planning. Team BCCI and Team India will do well to follow the same step.
