Free is not for granted !

Grisoft proves that all free software too can deliver exceptional quality. I don’t know how they can afford to give it away free without even advertising.

AVG Free Edition is a simple to use, yet extremely powerful Antivirus for home users / commercial users for single PCs.

It was a time 2 years back when I was strictly against using copied software even @ home. My PC came bundled with licensed copies of Windows and Lotus Smartsuite. All other software that I used was available free [Outlook Express, Chat Clients, WinAmp etc]. I was in search of a good Antivirus solution which would offer me peace of mind.

I came across AVG Free Edition and installed it for evaluation. But I still find it much better then some of the commercial products too ! It has features like heuristics scan, email scan, virus vault [similar to quarantine in Norton Antivirus] etc.

Believe me, my Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition [which we use as a corporate solution in the office] does alert me on my mobile if a PC on the Network is infected but it is too late by then, because the PC is already infected.

However, all this time, since I am using AVG @ home, I have never been infected even once ! Of course, this requires constant updation of the virus signatures and some general sense on the part of users too. But this is simply great.

The only con that I see with AVG is the size of its update files. These are quite big and could tax a dial-up internet user. But I have shifted on to cable internet and now this worry is gone too !
