Just before writing this review, read suchitraa review. Just of my opinon, I won’t even partially agree to that.
Why? Here is my two cents.
First of all ayan is not an’Nan kadavul’ or’Kanchivaram’. Full blast masala, mixed with smart racy screenplay, Suriya [boy!, oh I really started to admire his acting] and good support cast. If u wanna decent entertainer with fresh treatment on screenplay then this is really worth a bet. Don’t even think its another Bheema. Bheema was holy crap.
I won’t reveal the plot, but we have seen gang movies, smuggllers, sentis, cat & mouse, romance, songs, but this movie has right mixture of all ingredients which is quite a meal for your movie appetite. After average directional venture, K V Anand comes out with sure shot winner on his second movie for this summer.Sure gonna ring cash registers.[Of course we have Sun TV to do the marketing].
Suriya!. wow this guy is a PERFORMER. I am hard core fan of Chiyaan and iam never convinced when my friends compare Suriya with Vikram(though I like both acting). I have to painfully(pleasurely) accept Suriya is closing the gap with Chiyaan. Every frame he shows up dance, fight, romance, sentis acting flows on him. Though this has not happened in one day, I knew he will become good actor when I saw the scene from Nanda [before the college fight, Suriya downs his head and finger points the thug not to go bad. What a confident!]. Iam happy to join Suriya’s fan club.
The second person I wanna congratulate would be M S Prabhu [not our’enna koduma saravanan’] the cinematographer, his work in the movie is truly amazing. Right from Old Chennai
-> Malaysia -> Africa he mesmerizes with coloring, angle and zoom shots.Hats off.
Editing is master. Crisp, Cut and Class. African Fight’s are really "Kannal"(fire) Kannan, esp. African Diamond chase fight.
Support Cast.Prabhu shines as Veteran, Renuka rightly fills mom’s shoes. Jagan’s oneliners good.
Ponvannan makes merry. Tammana does warmup acting after her promising’Kallori’. Makes some good chemistry with Suriya. Saigal didn’t really convince me, probably dubbing was too bad.
What do I miss? Yes we have Harris. I don’t know music, but I have grown up listening IR and ARR. Iam sorry harry u don’t belong on BGM cadre. Songs were good when watched with video.
’Nenje Nenje’ Harish Raghav takes us somewhere.’Oo Aayiye Aayiye’ picturisation was good.
’Honey Honey’ wasted 5 mins.
Climax? Catch me If u Can!. though not bad.
Finally K V sir, national award winning cinematographer donning director cap delivers us feel good entertaining and enjoyable movie. Meal is hot. Enjoy it.
