Regressive Tamil serials

Am not sure if it’s just me but the more I watch shows even the so called good ones like Bhagyaakshmi the more I wonder if we are in the 21st century or the 19th centurywomen are still considered as Pariah Dhan and expected to love in a joint family after marriage and her own parents take a back seat. Shows women only in the kitchen and very rarely do we see then independent. Bhagya Lakshmi was different and she was shown as taking her own decisions after divorce yet her mother in law goes and tell Gopi’s mother in law not to stay with her daughter! Utterly shocking. High time the theme or story lines change. I feel serials from 15 years ago like Astitva Ek Prem Kahani were more forward thinking showing independent women taking care of her parents or parent wre shown. Also all these serials make it appear like staying separately as a couple after marriage is wrong. Actually this practice should be encouraged. We live in the 21st century and the bottom line is marriage is the coming together of two families and not just the girl going to a boy’s family! It would be great if these serials took some lessons from Rocky aur Rani ki lrem kahani. I did kt like some of the crass dialogs of the movie but it is good because of the lessons it imparts with respect to patriarchy and equality
