“Movie hysteria continues…
FIRST OFF ALL MS NEEDS A SERIOUS QUALITY PERSON, Beacuse somebody needs to tell them that BABA is not a Telgu Movie but a Tamil movie, its actually dubbed in Telegu.
I had written this full fledge Baba review long time back but due to MS’s lackluster attitude of adding the Movie after a long time made my earlier review a bleak as I deleted it a long time back. Hence, after a perseverance from few friends at MS who forced me to re-write it again, I am re-writing my Baba review, which earlier I couldn’t publish as their was no category of Regional movies.
Hence I am pretty upset with MS in this regards...
Leaving my disappointments behind, let me present you the real Superstar of Indian movies, Rajnikanth.
Man, I couldn’t believe I am writing a review of a Rajnikanth movie. This itself brings Goosebumps for me, because it will be one of the most daring attempt by anyone. I hope none of the great Rajni fans are reading this.
Pre-Baba Hysteria…
Their was lot of hype moving around Baba and their was a real wait and watch for this amazing stars new release. Even before the movie was released the producers of Baba had earned around 60Crs in just merchandise selling and the sales of the music. Though, inspite of A.R. Rahman’s music, Baba’s music really got a cold response and stones at A.R. Rahman’s house. This is how they treat their stars in South. If you perform your Statues will be made or else get ready for stones. Hence, even before the movie got released Baba became a super hit.
My First Experrience with Rajnikanth movie…
Believe me, 6mths back, I was really not a great fan of Rajnikanth and I used to really pull leg of this star for his amazing gimmicks, but alas, I didn’t knew that I would become such a great fan of this Superstar. Being in Coimbatore a friend forced me to watch Padyappa and Badsha, what I got out of this movie was that, I was becoming crazy for a Rajnikanth movie. (How typical of a Tamil movie buff…) But never before had I seen a Rajnikanth movie in the theatre, hence, I got an opportunity of watching Baba, on the 25th day.
The Theatre Preview…
I reached the theatre bang on time, inspite of the movie running on the 25th day, hardly could I see a space to park our vehicles and the rush really made it impossible to hover around the theatre. The lower crowd, still sitting over each others head for the ticket, but alas only few are going to get it, because it was already houseful. With so much excitement I entered the theatre and got a good seat. With all the shouting and screaming going on, I was getting really excited. Finally, the name came and the entire theatre became a cricket stadium, with people cheering even the name of the Superstar. Man, what a scene never before, I have seen a theatre like this. Hence, starts the BABA…
BABA …
Baba, stars superstar Rajnikanth, as Baba who happens to be a disciple of the Great Babaji and he fails in his initiation process because of some desires and so by the powers of Babaji he is born again as Baba for Sujatha. Sujatha is Babas mother and Nambiar is the uncle.
As mentioned by Babaji, initially Baba does not believe in God and religion and Baba becomes a local goon, drinking and doing all wrong things. He is accompanied by (Annamalai) Goundamani and his friends doing nothing but drinking and harassing people. During this course, Baba, hits Minister’s (Ashish Vidharthi) son (Riyaz Khan) and starts his tussle with gang. During this course, Baba is taken back to the Hill by a Mad man(Shyaji Shinde) who incidentally is a follower of Babaji monitoring Baba closely. Hence, Baba is taken to Himalaya and is given 7mantras through which he would realize the presence of God. But Baba(Rajni) doesn’t believe in those Mantra’s and in this turn wastes most of his mantra’s on things like making the Kite fly on his lap, making Ramya Krishna(A La Padyappa) come and speak to him, getting him 1lac rupees . But during his 6th wish he realizes the power of these mantras and you have a new changed Baba.
During this course , his love interest is played by a OVERWEIGHT(Manisha Koirala) who falls in love with the Goon Baba and then due to family pressure rejects him.
Coming back to his Last mantra, he wants to utilize it for a good deed , but the Chief Minister (Bharat Dhaboalkar) & Gang has got other ideas for this mantra. Obviously to become the Chief Minister life long. Hence, with the help of a tantric(Obviously it has to be Amrish Puri..(A la Chandraswami Getup) tries to get the mantra.
Hence, finally what happens, you have got to see the movie, as I don’t want to spoil your mood.
Verdict
Though, it’s a totally a typical Rajnikanth movie , people with an open mind and looking for a absurd kind of entertainment can go for this movie. I loved this movie, as I like Rajni’s style and his actions. There are different counts for this movie…
You would like this movie only…
Expect Rajni to hit the goons with the volleyball in one shot and then the ball to return to him.
See, fire from his shoes when he is walking.
You can see, the shoe coming back on his legs, after he hits one of the goons with shoe.
His high fly freeze action.
You like Rajni and his style of Dialogue Delivery.
Rajni’s movie are like Govinda movie as you can expect the unexpected. No doubt I am not comparing, this movie is really worth a watch who are looking for time pass and not looking for.
Man , I am a class person and wouldn’t watch this absurd things.
Man, I can only watch love stories and SRK hamming.
I would only watch a polished film.
You want my verdict, the verdict is…
“B FOR A …A FOR B “ THAT’S WHAT THEY SAY BABA….YES
“B FOR A …A FOR B “ THAT’S WHAT THEY SAY BABA.
Who would say that Baba is a flop with so many people still rushing, now doubt with Rajnikanth standard you could call it a flop.
