No reviews on a place like Bade Miyan! Cmon guys! How often have we staggered out of Goks and after reality hitting us think, "Hey, I aint eaten. I need (hic) food." So paddle we all across the road to the welcoming arms of Bade Miyan. If you have a car (and a designated driver) then you can order and wolf it down on the cars bonnet, as is the norm. Or you could try to sit on one of the makeshift chairs and table arranged on the sidewalk.
If youre lucky, you get some khiri kebab. I normally settle for that and some mutton dish with an egg on top. Or else, if hand to mouth co-ordination is functional I order some mutton boti, bheja fry and roti.
Nows the time to get a few facts straight. Many of you Bombay guys n gals know Bade Miyan but for those who do not, heres a gentle warning. Its an open air cart located on a footpath with seating on pavements (with chair n table) and all over the place. Exposed to the elements and to the vagrants that pass by at un-godly hours (like you). Do not raise a racket. Do not puke all over the place (It happens). And do not be bothered about the swaying patron on the next table. If youve got a weak stomach, get your own bottle of water and if youre finicky about the "ideal preparation condition" then look for another place to eat...(Good luck on that!) Bade Miyan is open till late late in the night and caters to the various colourful characters that crawl out of Bombays woodwork after a tough day at the office...or any other place of work.
For people eager to catch the last train, theres kebab rolls; tasty meats swaddled up in a rumali roti, like a wrap. For the more leisurely eater, theres mutton boti and more. If youre one of those guys whos walked in early (in the morning) dont expect to get your choice of dish. It could be over.
A meal here for two should set you back by Rs 500 max. Word of caution: if youre taking a parcel, then check the contents b4 u leave. In the rush there is a tendency to get the order wrong.
All in all, a great place to grab a bite. NOT for a family outing.
Bon apetit!
