Badhaai Ho Badhaai a Kapoor & Kaushik Production is a family entertainer with a serious message. Its a film for everybody from 6-60. Directed by Sautish Kaushik who earlier films Hamara Dil Aapke Pas Hai, Nayak, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai have been very popular, this film tell you that Love is the most important part of life and is needed by anybody and everybody in large doses.
Its about an overweight Raja whos own love though unrequited is willing to sacrifice everything for his beloved one. Its about Dsouza and Cheddas have been warring and growling at each other for long 27 years because their erstwhile siblings had fallen in love which was not acceptable by the respectful elders, hence they elope and get married and settle else where far away from the clutches of the family. Raja the proxy grandchild along with his proxy wife Banto Betty tries to douse the animosity between the families and let love reign supreme.
The over weight and cute Raja played by Anil Kapoor is a very realistic character portrayal. Makeup gurus were especially flown in from US to give Raja is overweight identity and appearance. Banto Betty, Rajas Punjabi rustic wife played by Shilpa Shetty livens up the movie. Kirti Reddy as Florence DSouza, plays Rajas ladylove. Though Ms Reddy looks pretty she is quiet annoying and shrieks and shouts at every given moment in the film. Farida Jalal and Amrish Puri as usual excel in their performances and portray grandparents who everybody could love to have.
Anil Kapoor as the fat Raja is pleasure to watch. He has carried the movie brilliantly on his shoulders. Lyrist Javed Akhtar and Musician Anu Malik have done a good job. Songs like Teri Zindigi Main Pyar, Thero Zara, Jogan Jogan, Dil Bata Mere Dil Bata are very catchy and lively numbers.
Loudness is the specialty of this comedy and some sequences have been inspired (copied) from the Tamil film Poove Unakage and Eddie Murphys Nutty Professor.
It is film for the masses and is a good family drama with all the right ingredients of romance, humour and spice. The end is pleasantly different and realistic far from the usual endings of Hindi Films.
