Story : badrinath of jhansi is looking for a typical bride and vaidehi of kota is looking for an independent life . Together they must break with tradition and redefine with role
My Review : Badrinath ki dulhania is a ruckshak full of radioactive social issues handled cautioisly with bedazzled Drama gloves but handled is the operatives word here.
Set in small town like jhansi and kota here patiarchy id evident as daylight the movie focuses on Badrinath( Varun Dhawan) a son of a sahukar who is looking for a typical bride for him , he spots vaidehi( Alia Bhatt) at a wedding and starts woohing her. But vaidehi refuses to bow down to social pressure and suecumb to a marriage nurtured by an IV daip of dowry. Turns out shes that mutant small town girl with acctual opinions and most important spine
And her character is backbone of the story too.
Shes fierce and real , she protects her dream and for one doesnt act emotionally manipulated . her fathers heart condition be dammed
Through Vaidehi the movie checks important boxes gender issues like feminism consent etc . but the story is treated so stylistically with elaborate songs , sequences and flashback and cinematic moment that is loses heat. At times characters speak like public service announcement and seems a little contrived
The runtime doesnt help either , this is a story with an obvious climax , so sitting through two and a half hours to find out why you already know might get uncomfortable but the breezy hillarious lines should get through it.
Togethet Varun dhawan and Alia bhatt are the best thing that could have happened to our screens the beautifull effortlessness of their onscreen companionship plasters grin on your face , Varun dhawan as Badri is adorable you instantlly take to him. He even pulls off some high drama scenes inspressively. Alia bhatt as Vaidehi impressively gives it her all and her sincerty comes through but her accent , casually swinging between Juhu and Jhansi is brothersome
So yes to this wedding, its grand, with good music and great artists
