The beach to be at among the beaches

Baga Beach came highly recommended by a friend who had recently honeymooned there a year ago. When I visited it in June of this year, I was very happy to find out it was every bit as good as my buddy had described it. This beach is located along the North coast of Goa. It is little north of the equally famous Calangute beach and south of the Anjuna beach. In fact that entire stretch is nothing but beaches…loads of beautiful clean beaches.

The best way to get around here and make the most of the trip is to first rent a scooty. Honda Activas are the most popular scooters around, but you can get Kinetic Hondas for a bit cheaper. You will find the locals renting them out for between Rs 150 - 175 a day (you have to fill up your own petrol). Once nice trick I learned was to go to any of the Goa Tourism own hotels and park your bags over here, you can ask about the room rates, but you may find those a bit steep at their hotels, since they are located on prime property. Having dumped your bags in the hotels lobby (and leaving a friend on guard), you can venture out to find yourself a scooty. When you got yourself a good deal, you can use that same scooty to then hunt for a good deal on hotel in the vicinity! Believe me folks, if you are going to Goa in a small group – this is a really good way to find yourself a hotel that you consider a nice deal.

There a tons of hotels our there and going about on foot is going to be very tiring! Since you gotta rent a scooty while in Goa, might as well rent it at once and use it for the hotel hunt (not to mention ferrying your luggage to the hotel). I spent 7 days in dreamland, discovering all the wonderful beach and being able to access small paths that a four-wheeler could not go through. The abundance of sight seeing spots in the vicinity will guarantee a very busy holiday! Be sure to take along lots of film or spare memory cards because you will want to take tons of pics.

Unless you have managed to land a deal with some guest house or have relative who can offer food and shelter – your trip to Baga will be a slightly expensive one. My visit was close to the end of the season and in most places AC rooms were for around Rs 750 a day and meals were close to Rs 700 for a couple. Adding in the scooty and petrol, you can expect to spend around Rs 1800 to 2200 a day for a couple with very little shopping.
