Always love to review restaurant, especially famous eateries around the town. Im in love with this Platform where I can express my views for free and get compliments from various people and the ratings too.
Its been quite some time when I last reviewed a restaurant, and guess what? Today Im here to review another restaurant. One can find me here either when I want to review a restaurant or when I want to review a movie or its songs. I like reviewing I pods too, hope some day I build up a huge collection of I pods.
I was here to review a restaurant which is very very well known since decades, and they have been serving people especially tourist since many decades. Surprisingly, I couldnt find any review on the restaurant. The thing that surprised me was that inspite this restaurant being so so famous it dint have a single review on it. So I decided to review this product and share my experience.
Ive been to Bagdadi many a times, and have had good experience every single time.
Let me come straight to the point about the pros and cons of this restaurant:
Let me begin with the pros:
How I landed here?
This place is situated far from the nearest station which is CST( Around 2.5kms), but its ideally located amidst the crowd and the most well known Gateway of India. Daily millions of people come to visit the Gateway as its one of the 7 wonders of the world.
There is no doubts at all that the eateries around would be expensive, but Bagdadi is one place where anyone and everyone can land in without any hesitation. There are many famous restaurants around like LEOPOLD, GOKUL etc. But Bagdadi is a place to try out if one is a die hard fan of non-veg dishes.
Every day Bagdadi has its own special dish, and all of them are a must try. Some of them are Chicken White, Chicken Kadai, Chicken Dum Biriyani etc.
As this place is a Mughlai & Arabian restaurant, Drinking is strictly not allowed, so if one prefers to drink they can try out LEOPOLD which is walkable distance from bagdadi.
The best part is that this restaurant opens very early in the morning at around 7am and closes at around 12 in the night.
Now I come to the point as to how did I get here? I and my few college friends had bunked college and we planned it out to visit the GATEWAY.
We faced little difficulty to reach the destination as there was strike of cabs in colaba that day, so we had to go by bus, and travelling by bus really gets on my nerves.
Even after getting down we had to walk for another 5 mins, but one thing was good that there is a very famous place for shopping for womens names cause-way and its very much famous and who ever comes to gateway has to visit this place by default. Sometimes even guys are seen roaming near-by or even inside cause-way, wonder what are they searching for there.
We all friends were tired as the journey was very hectic, so we decided to have lunch from some restaurant near-by GATEWAY and knowing that would be expensive we were ready for it. Finally scouting for a restaurant we came across leopold and gokul and bagdadi, but we preferred bagdadi as it wasnt a bar-cum-restaurant.
We were very hungry and we kept on ordering multiple dishes and trust me all of them were yummy, starting from the starters to the main course every dish was mouth-watering. The only thing that got on our mind was the customer service that we faced. Let me first tell you that this place is always full most of the time and being the peak time around 2 pm the restaurant was jam-packed. We got a place to sit for the entire group after 10 mins of entering the restaurant.
Then we literally had to call the waiter to take our order, and the starters took way too much time to come, but meanwhile we ordered some softdrinks.
The quality and quantity of the food was awesome, and we all hogged like mad. And it was not like that we were hungry so we felt that the food and the starters were yummy, as Ive already told youll that Ive been to this place multiple time is whats making me write this review.
The starters were awesome, and so were the main course dishes. There was one of my friend who was a vegetarian and he too liked the dishes that were served to him as he had ordered dishes that he had never heard of before.
As usual one can expect the biriyani served at mughlai restaurant to be super duper awesome, and this restaurant was no different from the others.
Even the sea food was really awesome, we tried 2 starters in fish and 2 starters in chicken and we tasted a variety of main course dishes too. And when it comes to me, Ive tried even couple more dishes when Ive been here with my other friends.
The food and presentation was OK and nothing great to boast about. The serving is done precisely and in a descent manner.
The main disadvantage is that this restaurant does not have a washroom, and I felt this was the main drawback of this restaurant. And as this restaurant is around since decades, it should make some arrangements for a proper washroom and better wash-basin.
As I already mentioned, the customer service is kind of slow here as the restaurant is always filled with tourists and local people.
When it comes to hygiene, I would say that one cant expect the food to be extremely hygienic as one can find it in expensive pubs and restaurant. But its pretty descent.
Its not a big restaurant so there isnt any ambiance nor decor, so one should not expect the place to be lighted up brightly nor to be loud playing music. This was a bit disappointing for me, hope they make some changes with respect to this category.
I still remember the special dish of the day that we had, it was known as chicken white which was really yummy. Everyday there is a special dish, and a must try.
The best part is that the food isnt that expensive inspite being in a very active and lively environment, and normally eateries around famous junctions are always expensive.
Final verdict:
I would say that this place is the best place to visit when one visits the Gateway of India, and the caves. This restaurant is around since decades, and even my dad know this restaurant damn well and he too used to visit this place during his time.
Surely a more than once try restaurant, especially for non-veg people, and dont forget to have the caramel custard, it just melts in the mouth.
And I can bet that once if this restaurant is tried than one will surely get addicted to this place and would like to visit this place on a constant basis.
Disclaimer: Please dont expect ambiance and decor and you might have to bear with the customer service if the restaurant is damn crowded.
