Whatever the movies u see....comedy, family drama, horror or go down the other lane & u have different people revealing their creative side in different shades. but in this mad world, who really has the time to be in touch with our roots?? tell me honestly...all we do to be in touch with our roots turns out to be a showoff. today I shall write without large shortforms because the movie I m writing about is really really worth it..really worth it. what ravi chopra has got in mind is indeed what we all miss today in our real lives ie, how our parents shaped our life & in their future who shall be with them just because they were with us in our childhood. truly, birth & death-two opp.values are truly complementary to each other.
i didnt wtch baghban in theatre coz my tickets got cancelled as the theatre strike was there. so I watched it on dvd & my entire family was there. the movie has a very simple plot...of our everyday lifestyle, which is exhibited by mr.bachchan & hema malini who plays his lifepartner. the onscreen chemistry between the 2 is still as great as u wud find a shahrukh or kajol. immediately the satte pe satta days r reminded. mr.bachchan plays a bank employee who works hard for the joy of his kids, friends, but has little to invest for himself in the future. as obvious their children stay away from them. the scripting is kept very simple but delivers solid punch as there r the love moments between raj(bachchan) & pooja(malini), moments which show trust, responsibility, understanding etc. the plot is revealed when raj asks his sons after his retirement that with whom shud they stay coz they r retired and r free for the rest of their life. the question puts each one into a puzzle & later the sons decide to keep dad & mom seperately for 6 months each with shifts. this is a huge blow to the parents expectations as they thot they wud stay together.but neways... raj stays with sanju(Samir soni) & pooja stays with ajju their elder son(aman verma). problems start as the parents become a burden for the kids as they think they r a big interference in their private matters. one day raj meets up paresh rawal who runs a music shop & so touched is rawals character by rajs, he calls him motabhai...in respect. lilette dubeys perfect portrayal of rawals wife is also very good. the portrayal of the gap created between man & wife by bachchan & malini is very nice as bachchan writes letters, the songs on the fone r very good too if u see the lyrics clearly & above all he celebrates festivals like karva chauth & valentines day with her on fone too. hema malini didnt mind the fone bills!!! a glimpse of comedy is provided by rawal with his saala & that is enough. the songs r well placed too.
6 months r over & its time for change & the change in place takes place incidently when their marriage anniversary is there. so raj & pooja meet & the emotions put in the scen e when bachchan & malini meet on the station is ecstatic, too good.salman khan provides a superb peformance with his stranger image. salmans character is tht of a orphan who is raised to his pinnacle in life by bachchan & that character believes in the presence of god in his parents to be true. raj & pooja r touched by his coming & find solace at his place. a gooooood job by mahima also as arpita...the perfect wife.the scene where the officer lashes out at bachchan for taking a false test drive & wen salman steps in is heart touching. on rawals & other bachchalogs insistance...bachchan pins down all his thoughts...experiences in proper format & gives it the title baghban which incidently is left at the music shop!!! & hemant(rawal) meets up a publicationist( bapuji of khichdi fame). the book is published, raj wins the booker price & all acccolades, royalties....etc.
the end is the start for nething inspirational to go by. the speech by salman is an opener. but what stands out is amitabhjis speech. telling u frankly...i have seen people read reviews & watch movies....but go for this one without even reading about one or hearing too whther its so-so, achcha, theek & all dat.. that moment of the movie is when I literally cried and cudnt stop myself. the moment is not raj speaking, but it is amitabh itself. he is brilliant & I deliver that word with such panache that wud knock out my worst enemy.
to me this is not a movie...its beyond a viewing experience....this is a message. the point when raj asks some qs at the end is truly FANTASTIC indeed.hes peaking & peaking & ....... whtever I mite hav written till now mite not b tht detailed...but alls revealed by the truth. the speech of the movie shud be enacted in public & a book on baghban shud be written by sumone & I bet it will be a smash hit. a smash hit not just bcoz it touches us, but delivers a message which is ignored nowadays. I really feel....coz the message is indeed missing in todays hip-hop world. till the movie got over the only instance I woke up from my chair was when I got a terrible call for toilet & that too I controlled it coz I cudnt afford to miss a fantastic visual treat.
u cant ask for more if u r a hunger driven movie buff...this is the very best. the movie belongs to the script, the brilliant narration, humble music, class direction & ofcourse even in todays modern days....a pair that stands out...big b & hema malini alongwith a superb support by salman & paresh rawal alongwith aman verma & others(they just played their part). kudos to the chopras who r back with a bang & obviously not coz they feel in their way to promote cinema as a mass appealing body & not just providing solid entertainment, where actors value their roles than body appeal & not where theres a fusion of only the new. the times will go on, but whts the use of cinema no acting to deliver imp. msgs when required.
so keep all ur worries aside & go for baghban with only the thing in mind that u r gonna have a treat worth ur money...or otherwise as amitji says in the movie, ye ummeed bhi ek ajeeb cheez hai.... better not expect too if u r the other sorta guy or gal. the movie is a message which has been delivered in a gr88888888 way & dont forget to take a few more paper nappies.............u mite definitely need em. as far as the awards go it shud go to the big B, supporting role either to rawal or salman, best story, script & narration alongwith some snazzy editing too. apart from all....ravi chopra shud be given all the kudos for reaching out to the public with a concept so old yet very very very lively & of importance even today.
enjoy... & plzzzz take sum fevicol alongwith ya....coz the movie is too good to be missed by getting up even once. I wud recommend it 2 u to wtch it alongwith everyone as whoever is close to ur heart...be it ur girlfriends too.if u r human enough, the movie will definitely touch u, but if u r dekha & forget or the timepass type...then plz dont waste ur time watching a movie like this ....it wont suit u & dont spoil the quality of a movie like this, by wtching it for fun & a break as we put it..dont ever do that. this so called is just a small appreciation for a big movie like this & even big b who conveys a lot to us through this.his message is in my heart & thanx to him I shall preserve it forever.KUDOS TO THE ENTIRE TEAM OF BAGHBAN..CHEERS & WARM SEASON WISHES 2 U ALL.
REST ALL............ENJOY.
