Bajaj Avenger 220cc Macho (after 800km)

After reading hell lot of comments from mouthshut.com and consulting from lot many friends I purchased this black bird on 11 Jan 2011 from Bangalore khivraj motors on road price was 83, 620 rs on road price. The worst part is that in pune my friend purchased it for 79, 760Rs on road. See the difference in road tax!!bloody politicians. In Delhi I am not sure but  last time when I checked, it was 77kRs on-road price.

I was bit confused about the after sale service of bajaj because the people were telling me that service is not good as compared to Honda and Yamaha. But my friend recommended me to go for it, because he already had this machine and was satisifed.

Comfort :

I guarantee that no other bike can beat it when it comes to comfort and looks, u just relaxed yourself like sitting on the sofa and riding a bike. For the rider this is the only bike which has been manufactured considering full comfort in mind, I challenge royal enfield also cannot beat it w.r.t comfortability. But of course when it comes to pillion, for big bumps it would be a trouble for long distance. For thin guys n gals pillion is relaxing as it is bit narrow.

My friend told me the best part of this bike is the pillion seat support U do not have to hold the bike for the support like other bike pulsar or karizma.

Looks:

Whenever I stop my bike at the signal people use to stare at my bike and discuss among themselves, a guy stopped me and said "this is my dream bike". The second, third, fourth. Look is guaranteed if you’re riding an avenger whether it is a guy or a gal they definitely will get mesmerise by the beauty of the bike.

Handling and control.

This is the best byke in handling and control, I am so much used to Avenger that I don`t even feel like riding the sports byke. For short highted guys this byke is like a gift. I agree with the previous post, that switching from 1st gear to neutral is irritating because it is not so much smooth, but this cud be ignored and u will be used to the pattern when u start riding frequently.

The front disk brake is great. If ii talk about the pickup then I shoud say it is not so fast like pulsar 220 or other sports byke, but u can catch good speed and leave many bykes behind, max speed I ve touced of my friend`s avenger is 110.

Caution: Never use a front brake while u r turning ur byke u will be in trouble as the byke will skid.

Mileage:

For mileage as many people are concerned about it

Earlier I only used to get 30 Kmp/l as a mileage I dont know why!! I was so much disgusted and thought made some wrong decision. Now, I have cleared around 790 km and after the first service( 1 month afte the purchase) I am getting 35-37 kmp/l.

In the heavy traffic city like bangalore city u can expect 32kmp/l but on highway mileage is around 36-38 kmp/l.

Drawback:

  1. The worst part is the ignition key, I don`t know why the hell they have placed it near the tank.

  2. Pillion seat for fatty guys.

One incident I wud like to mention

By mistake I left my byke on parking key(headlight was on) and after 2 hour the battery was disharged. I drag my bike for 1 km to find a garage, the best part was that the mechanic did not even touched the battery he simply removed the spart plug cleaned it, and the byke started once again.

I dont know why they did not provide the kick in the byke, it coud be easier.

Another incident happened when I left my byke for 4 days and went out of station(switching off the ignition key), then also the same problem occured, this time I simply pushed my byke for 5-10 mt and simultaneaulsy switched the ignition button, that also worked.

So, if u r going for long vacation then u can give ur keys to any reliable guy who can make ur byke start for two min, once in a two 3 days. or u can apply the funda ive mentioned. That will also work definitely.

Have great journey on this great byke.

One more thing, go for teflon coating when you purchase the byke this will help in less scratches and shining of the byke. (Just my opinion as it helps)

In Bangalore Khivraj motors charged me 600 Rs for 4 times coating. U can also purchase wax-polish which includes teflon, in the market u can get it in around 300-350 Rs

I hope this may help u in making a good decision. U will love the journey I assure you guys!!

Have a Safe Journey!!
