I waited for 4 months to write a review and to know if avenger is really an
avenger in essence or it’s just a name.
Since
childhood my room was decorated with Cruisers posters and as I grew, Avenger was
the only bike I could think of as for a scrawny fellow like me royal Enfield
would be too huge.
Overall
I am satisfied with the bike. But there is surely room for more. Let me
elaborate the four basic points of discussion:
Fuel
Consumption (kms/litre): you can trust the bike on highways as the mileage even
touches 46 / liter. But when it come to city traffic mileage varies from 38 -
42 depending on traffic conditions. The fuel gauge is very funny, please keep
it as a show piece and have a count on the trip meter all the time.
Comfort:
the front seating is amazing, remember! Feel like God, I think this line is
derived from here. However, the rear seat is tiny for most of overweight crowd
and I am sure they would be disappointed. The handle is well designed and gives
you the real pleasure of riding a cruiser.
Reliability:
the first question which knocked my head was: what if the electric start gives
away. However, as per Bajaj, they have installed a Zero maintenance battery so
the chances are very less, I haven’t had any problem with the electric start
till date, and I hope I doesn’t in future.
The
indicator display only looks good during night, under the sun it shys away and
you would really have to bend forward and check if the indicator is still flashing.
The engine gets heated up very easily and at the same pace it cools down, I
checked with the Bajaj mechanic, he said it would not be a cause of concern; my
experience says please don’t rush to remove the key off the ignition as
the engine is right next to it ready to give you those painful blisters.
The
head light looks small; but I bet the halogen it is the
best i have seen; The high beam has a great focus. Be cautions
about the tail light cover as there is nothing to protect it, just a
little ignorance and you would hear a crack sound :)
The performance of the rear break is very poor; however when you use the disc
and the rear break the bike comes to a immediate halt.
The
real question: Avenger at Top Speed? Seconds after you open the throttle you
see the speedometer @ 60km/ hr and taking the bike to its top speed from there
is just a matter for few second more. In the end you are satisfied that avenger
is avenger in real essence as the bike doesn’t vibrate and stands stable at 90
degrees though you go against the winds, no quivers, no complains.
Handling
and control: Handling and the road grip is quite unbelievable, I love the rear
tyre though base of the front tyre should have been a little wider; some people
would complain about the handling as the bike is not for the people who want to
take over footpath & and jump over pot holes; have a little patience and
you would know that the bike is for people who believe haste makes wastes.
Remember : THIS VEHICLE TAKES WIDE TURNS!!! you cannot just change your
decision on the road for taking a left or a right turn; make sure you are
preplanned else, u would land up jamming the traffic.
Looks:
Real head turner; be prepared as people ask questions on the signals, stops and
parking : "What is the mileage?" " How much did you buy it
for?" and so on. For looks bike should score 9 on 10; remember
-1 points for the compromise on the front tyre. The tank is like a baby
elephant though only 14 liters but is an asset to the looks. I like the fonts/
stickers by Bajaj especially on pulsar and avenger; they are not over done and
irksome as in hero Honda and TVS.
Conclusion:
Right now I feel that Avenger is one of the best cruiser around as we have no
competitors, even bajaj didn’t had to spend much on advertising as we bloggers
have done all the promos required (free of cost). Make sure you maintain &
polish your bike everyday as all the onies you have paid to Bajaj is for the
killer looks, else your bike would look shabby.
Happy Avengering!!!
