I was looking for a bike to commute to office, which is only 10 km from my house. After waiting for long I bought this bike at Rs. 44200 (fairing, drum brake, ordinary wheel, kick start, on road Delhi) in March 2005, its almost 6 months over and I have barely driven 2000 km on it.
This bike is good to zoom past your competitors unless its a Pulsar. Also its pretty smooth at 25 km/hr in 4th gear. But I hate when its gear stuck between 2nd and 1st gear and becomes neutral. Again you have to learn the trick how to bring it to 1st gear in such situation. After going through other reviews I come to know that this is a inherent problem with Discover, not just mine. Gears are bad but lights are brighter than those of HH family. Driving with a heavy pillion in city traffic proved to be a hand stiffening job for me; I am only 52 on weight meter.
Before the first servicing I got about 60 km/ltr and after 1st servicing it went up to 61 km/ltr. Now I had the 2nd servicing now and their engineer has assured me that it will go up to 65 km/ltr. One thing I noticed during servicing that the Engineer did not hesitate to take my 2nd free servicing slip although I have well expired the time span of 3rd servicing, although being in Km limit of 2nd.
This bike is not for them who are less than 55 kg body weight and looking for mileage and smooth gear shift. Of course its a good choice for them who likes bad roads, bright lights and a rugged powerful bike.
Update: 1st May 2006
As of today, I have clocked 7000 kms and its giving me a cool 66-68 km per litre, driven mostly solo. No major complaint or repairing yet except two lost nuts, due to loose tightening it fell down and missed somewhere on the road.
The gear-shift still lingers, have to live with it. Sometime ago there was a noise from the chain, that persists even after adequate oiling and tightening of the chain. I didnt notice it anymore.
