Hi All. Hope you all liked my selection criteria of buying Bajaj Discover. For those who have not, in a nutshell, I compared 150cc and 125cc bikes before purchasing this 125cc DTS-i marvel of Discover.
Okay, then. First service over and heres my updated review on what the bike has to offer after this. Lets begin then.
Friday morning, woke up at 6:30 to be the first to give my bike for servicing and surely, my name was the first to be registered for the service. Felt good to be the first that day. The problems I faced and complained about during the first service was - Chain slacking, bumpy front tyre, mileage (56kmpl, nothing to complain about but just wanted to let them know what it was). Oh and heres the biggest thing I got done to the bike - TEFLON COATING. I heard that getting this done saves the bike body from rust, dirt, water and the burning sun. So, I ordered for that as well. Okay, all that done now off to work.
Waited desperately for the day to get over and finally it was time to pick it up. Went to the showroom and there it was, looking better than the day I bought it. Shining like a star and an impeccable shine that was! Checked it out, took a lil test drive in front of the service guy and everything was alright! The bumpy front ride mustve been because of tyre air pressure, well, it was gone now. Chain slacking problem also gone (for now) and then came the big task of checking the mileage.
Rode the bike for a couple of days and the mileage was amazing. Put in a litre of Bharat Petroleum SPEED. Drove the bike for less than 40Kmph 90% of the time. Switched the bike off at long traffic signals (thanks to Electric Start). And you wanna know the mileage - Hold your breath - Are you ready??? - Well, okay, Ill let you all know - 63 KMPL and still going!!! Yup, thats, 63 KMPL and STILL GOING STRONG.
Surely, tomorrow morning when I take it out to get to the office, that litre should get exhausted and I will be off to the Gas Station for another litre. I will update this column after more fillups and hopefully with an average after high speed and low speed driving.
Okay, now, so far so good about the mileage. There are little more problems with the bike that I would still wanna get resolved. I will be totally frank here and wont hide anything. Here it goes. The front tyre still has a little bumpy ride, noticable only if you pay attention to it. I will have to get the air checked in the front tyre just to be on the safe side. So thats one. The chain slacking problem.
Still makes a noise when I speed up and if theres a pillion the chain keeps hitting the chain cover almost all the time. Have to get the chain slacking thing get fixed the first thing this weekend. And the light, now I feel that its not as powerful as a 60 watt bulb.
The spread of the light is good but the intensity is not the bright. Gonna get some winding done and get a 60 Watt bulb also this coming weekend. Also planning on getting the dome moved to a little higher angle so I can get a farther spread of the light. All you need is a wrench and a pair of pliers to get this done. Very easy. So far, thats all the problem I am facing after the first service.
Now, for the good things that came out after the first service. Cant tell you enough how good the Teflon Coating is. I would suggest each and every one of you to get this done the day you purchase the vehicle. it is really worth it. Lemme share you my experience.
The day I got it done, I did notice the shine and everything but it wasnt till the next morning that I felt the smooth coating and how soft it made the bike feel to the texture. I couldnt stop rubbing my hands over the body of the bike. It felt so smooth like silk and soft as ... let your imaginations go wild. Hope you got the picture.
And now after 5 days of this coating, every morning I just take a damp cloth, wipe it once and the shine comes back. The tank is safe from scratches and the tyres also look just like brand new. Just one wipe and every part of the bike comes back to life. What they do is they spray this coating over the whole bike, top bottom and sideways. I was told to get this coating done every 6 months, but for a mere price of Rs.375 only, I have planned on getting this done every 3 months.
The body still feels soft and smooth and the vehicle just shines in the bright sunlight. I even poured water on it and the water just drips off. It does not stay on the bike at all. Amazing. I wish I knew about this earlier, I wouldve got my Caliber 115 this coating as well. Anyways, better late than ever and on a new bike, its priceless.
The pickup is amazing. LET is soooo great that I now turn bends on the road on the 4th gear without any knocking or power drains. Just amazing. And when I see some splendor or passion trying to leave me behind, just a lil pull of the accelerator and thyre eating my dust!!! And I didnt even require a Pulsar to do that. Just a Discovery is enough.
WOW! I wrote so much already. Sorry if I took a lot of your time having you read all this. Bottom line, Go for the discover ES, mag wheels and Disc brake, its worth the money and your family will love it too.
I would love to share all your experiences with this vehicle. Drop me a line or two.
