DISCOVER

Finally after a long wait I discovered BAJAJ DISCOVER.

I had to wait such a long time because I was reading reviews at mouthshut, asking people everywhere and getting myself confused that which is the best bike in 125cc segment.(it’s a tough choice , got more confused as the new TVS VICTOR EDGE was released with gas shockers). I bought it mainly due to it’s DTS-i , tricsIII, CV carbuerater(present in UNICORN) and exhaust tech

I got it today itself and also it will mainly be driven by my brother as he sold of his old CHETAK and I finally managed to get him on the motorcycle thing.(people with scooter are very reluctant to change to bikes).

Review

I think the styling of the bike is very good and the alloy wheels and rear hugger compliment the style, the graphics are also pleasant, not so cluttered like glamour.

The color is BLUE on BLACK and it seems good to me (don’t know about you), my bro was longing for ORANGE on BLACK but he didn’t get one (it’s a rare color, not seen at any dealer yet, but seen on road) the shape of the bike is good, though your knees do not hug the tank as properly they do on UNICORN(I have one), the headlight beam quality is good.

Electricals are good, as I have purchased the electric start version so the bike starts in a moment, the smoothness is good enough(better than glx or gx , glamour I don’t know). The quality of the horn is good for delhi traffic(better than UNICORN)

Shock absorbers at the rear which are the new innovation by BAJAJ (SNS) are of excellent quality but my view is that they are a touch hard and they are also not adjustable , also the kick lever is hard(more hard than UNICORN). The suspension gets good when two people are sitting on it ( happens on UNICORN too)

It runs fast and there is no problem in reaching 60 (It gets there easily), but I think the low end torque is somewhat missing (like that of TVS STAR which is very good). The gear box makes it’s noise when u shift gears but if you do carefully it does not make a sound and till now I haven’t found any false neutral . The vibration dampeners are good at getting rid of vibrations and feels like a smooth ride .

The presence of ride control switch is felt when you go past 50kph as there is little resistance to increase the speed, this is a good and innovative technology by BAJAJ.

The console has tripmeter, tel tale signals , and fuel meter but I think the tachometer should be there (that is in UNICORN-i think I am used to it) , this is the only thing missing from the DISCOVER , instead of giving BAJAJ(inspiring Confidence) besides fuel gauge , they could have given the tachometer, .

The switch quality on the handle bars is top class but I feel that the pass switch of UNICORN is better. The quality of rear view mirrors is good but to rotate and set them to a different position is difficult(they are to stiff)

Top speed of the bike is something I will check out when it gets beyond 1000kms , until then I or my bro will be riding it in the range of 50-60.

Quality of the plastic material used for the body is good and will shortly have a teflon coating done .

The seat is not as wide as UNICORN but for a 125cc it’s good but I think it’s too narrow at the pillion end, my sis found it very good.

I have got it fitted with all the accessories (helmet lock, indicator buzzers, wheel lock, seat cover , side box).

The one thing to point out is that when the 4th gear is shifted, the you can press the gear level and it doesn’t become stiff(in UNICORN after fifth gear it becomes stiff and you can’t press any further)

The balance of the bike is good (but not like UNICORN - I have driven it without hands 50kmph-30 kmph and it doesn’t loose balance, just goes straight)wheres DISCOVER goes sideways when I tired it.

For the 1st ltr which was filled at the dealers shop it has given 58 kms. The mileage figure will certainly increase more as my bro gets more and more used to the bike.

That’s the review people.

I have not written the technical details as by now most people would have known it.

Also I have not ridden it for a long ride so can’t comment on it .
