Good on paper, be prepared for surprises

This is not a technical review, more from a user perspective. I am not for or against Bajaj or this product, just tried to record my sincere comments based on my personal experience. I purchased bajaj Discover 100T in Feb’13. It had a few defects, some rectified, some still remain a problem.

I see a peculiar problem with the front suspension in my bike. I feel a certain jumpiness while riding and slight wobbling of handle which is quite annoying and causing pain in hand / shoulder / neck. Bajaj service do not seem to have the time to trouble shoot it and resolve it, though I reported this concern the very next day after purchase. They said it would get resolved as time progresses.

Then they said it could be corrected during 1st service. Problem persisted after 1st service and I gave the vehicle to another service center (recommended by the dealer) whole of today and they returned it back with the same defect. I suspect they are simply prolonging as they cannot charge heavily for repair of a relatively new bike. I have reported this problem in the bajaj site and will update you on how they respond. It could be a problem specific to my bike, but I did see one more professional review mentioning this problem.

So test ride the bike, you intend to buy to check out this aspect (wheel alignment, tyres, tyre seating, front fork). I hope & pray you’re not as unlucky DISCOVER 100T PROS: - Long seat (probably longest in its category), ideal for family - Better ground clearance - Better stability on "DRY" roads while negotiating a curve (not sure on wet roads) - DC Head lamp - Looks like a 125/150 cc bike but not that heavy to handle - Slighlty better than a normal 100cc bike - Reaches 50 kmph effortlessly (no comments beyond that as this is the PROS section) - New concept in 100 cc (looks + power + mileage).

Though not a proven success yet - Mileage roughly 50-55 kmpl in city conditions. Yet to determine accurately CONS: - Gear box - The positioning of the gear pedal with respect to the foot-rest is a bit odd and uncomfortable on the heel side (can live with it though) - Seat not very comfortable for long rides (say more than 30-40km), but slightly better when compared with 125 ST - Unable to see any distinct advantage of the 5 gears - Certainly not as powerful as advertised. Speed dips even on mild slopes and fly-overs. May be marginally better than std 100 cc bike.

Can ride this bike in 50-60 kmph range, not beyond that (by design). Seems ok in city roads but pathetic on highways. There is lot of vibration (like overdrive) beyond 50 kmph - Did not observe appreciable torque either (not tested it out enough) - Kick start seems not effective. (Self-start seems better since the bike & battery are new) - Does not seem a value for money option, considering the on road price difference with respect to Discover 100 cc, Platina etc. - Finish quality not that good, cheap plastic parts, side cover, very rigid regulator type fuel knob, poor quality of ignition key and lock (Cost cutting resulting in lower Quality product) - Despite all the advertisement of more power, sporty look etc.

This is commuter bike (much like a village girl trying to wear modern clothes) My bike had an additional problem as reported above. Not sure if this can be generalized. I checked with two other customers at a service station and they did not seem to face this problem Summary: This is a commuter bike which looks (not performs) powerful and sporty and performs slighlty better than 100 cc bike. If your bike is free of defect, then you may want to live with it for a while Note on Bajaj service:- They do not do anything with your bike but water wash and change oil (based on belief) during free service.

They note down problems in the job card but this is just for record sake. The mechanic who services is unaware of the problem, till we tell him while taking delivery - ISO process etc. is a farce, not really followed. - Service stations are not equipped to handle certain type of defects, though they have a good invoice system to include all charges, tax etc. and come up with a big bill Bajaj Staff: Staff at the dealers as well as service stations that I have encountered were cordial and friendly.

Bajaj Products: - In a bid to give too many features at an affordable price, they compromise on quality. - High unpredictability as to when a model (even the successful ones) will be phased off, just to bring a new one to counter competition.- Bajaj products face more competition from its own products than from other manufacturers.
