The Best 150CC Commuter bike !!!

Till date, I had driven too many bikes. Started in the year 1998 with LML NV Spl scooter, then Bajaj Caliber, LML Energy FX, HH Passion, Bajaj Pulsar, Honda Unicorn, TVS Star City and now this one, Bajaj Discover 150. Firstly, I would like to say that don’t ever compare it with premium 150 cc’s available in India. It is a purely commuter bike with little more power, good breaking and decent fuel average, that’s it.

This time, I was looking for a commuter bike to drive in the city from point A to point B. Need the bike to travel maximum 30 kms in a day. So initially I choose Bajaj Discover 125 & 150 cc, HH Glamour, Honda Shine etc. I was short list Honda Unicorn & HH CBZ as well. But I stayed away from any 100 cc’s and Bajaj Platina because I didn’t want to buy those.

Then I controlled my nerves and stayed away from premium 150 cc’s because of there high price(around 72K, on average). My budget was maximum of 62 - 63K and I want everything on that price. So I rejected HH Glamour because normal Glamour with disk brake was not available at the time of my purchase. I was convinced to buy Shine but last minute changed my mind because of it’s thin rear tyre. Now the choice was limited to Discover only and on 17 th January’12 I went to Bajaj showroom to test drive Discover 125 cc. But there I changed my mind to Discover 150 cc because by paying approximately Rs.2500/ - extra than Discover 125 cc, you will get wider rear tyre which ensures better road gripping, you will get larger front disk brake for efficient braking & more powerful engine, though you are sacrificing 5+ kms / Lt as well. On 18-01-2012 I bought Discover 150cc Black / Purple by paying Rs.58, 500/ -(all inclusive @ Kolkata).

Till date, I drove 400+ kilometers and initially I am getting 45+ mileage. I am sure, with time it will touch at least 55 kms / Lt and I am ok with that figure. Initially, I did not sure about it’s suspension, but Discover’s Nitrox Suspension is great, even it is better than some premium 150 cc’s. Headlamp beam is superb. Due to wide rear tyre, road gripping is good but MRF Zapper is missing, Euro grip is ok sort of. Gear shifting is tight than the Honda’s but whoever buy Bajaj, I believe they knows it from the day 1. Most importantly, DTSi is a proven technology and hopefully the bike will last at least 5 years without any major maintenance work.

Bajaj is very confident in this aspect and they offer only 3 services(probably) during the warranty period. Look wise it is nothing and there is no difference between Discover 100, 125 & 150 but those prefers commuter bikes, I think it hardly matters to them, though all black theme is adding some appeal. No digital meter(thnx Bajaj, because that will cost us heavily if damage) though LED tail light is available. Torque is great, you can easily drive around 40-45 on 5 th gear without any knocking sound. You won’t feel back pain after 30-40 kms continuous riding.

Finally, if you want a commuter bike and if your budget is for 125 cc - then go and test drive this one. I am sure, you won’t regret. Budget is a factor, and Discover 150 cc is a good deal, it will cost you less than other 125 cc’s and product wise also it is good. I am happy with my Discover. I shall definitely update my latest experience with my Discover 150cc. Till then, Bye
