Hi all, im from Madras and I own this beast in black for two weeks. Ill let you know how this will be a big break thru for bajaj.
DESIGN AND LOOKS:Firstly you would notice the looks of it and can recognize it as p200, but it isnt since the exhaust is the same, the looks were unique on 200 and they have incorporated it here to make this better, everything is changed, the tyres, handlebars, split seat, etc
ENGINE:Im not getting too techy here, but ive leant that the new 180 uses 17.02ps of power( 16.5 previously) which sure helps in higher pickup and top speed. Ive done 105 so far, The engine starts in just one push of the button even when cold, that shows the technology of Bajaj
GEARBOX:The gear box has totally changed and now uses toe lift shifting. The shifts are real smooth and no false neutrals as in previous pulsars(if any)
SUSPENSION:The bigger forks from 200, swingarm from 220 and higher wheelbase and bigger 120 rear tyre gives the maximum stability even at high speed.
REAR TYRE AND CLIPONS:The rear tyre is now bigger as in 200 and looks massive, also provides more stability and safety during wheelie and rides. The main feature of this bike is the new handlebars, they are of clip on type from 220 and looks like apache. This makes one to zip in traffic.
SPLIT GRAB RAIL AND SEATS:The same as 200 and adds comfort to rider even in long rides. The sporty riding posture is awesome and some may think it might be painful in long rides but it doesnt( or atleast to me)
BRAKES:
Uses the a bigger disc brake in front and drum in rear, brakes are powerful and responsive.
MILEAGE:I get around 45 and some might get near 50 if they could maintain speeds in 50-60, but this is not the bike meant for mileage, its really amazing that bajaj tried to maintain the same mileage as in previous 180 even after these extra stuffs.
FULL DC ELECTRICALS:The bike uses every single light and sound directly from the battery, which means the headlight is always on even when the engine is running slow, but drains battery simultaneously, might be useful for some and not to others.
NO KICKSTART?Yes, the bike has no kickstart similar to FZ, and the rider has to rely on the battery power. But im pretty sure no one ever uses a kick unless the battery fails, I think this is the only cons
REFINEMENT/ CONCLUSION:
Everything is smooth, the engine, gear shifts, brakes and even the key has been redesigned and has a new shape, this is definitely the best in class. The engine now can pull even as low as 2000rpm and below this it suffers. The pickup is awesome, it can make 0-60 in approx 4 secs. Its the fastest in <200 except for R15, Handling is crisp, brakes are sharp, engine roars and one can hear the sweet growl of this beast when it crosses 5000 rpm, the exhaust has been tilted to a angle to make it look aggressive, This is a great achievement in the history of indian bikes, Hats off bajaj!
UPDATE AFTER FIRST SERVICE:The bike is awesome but it just "got better" after the first service. The gear shifts are real smoother than before, the engine is smooth(but still has the sweet growl)
MILEAGE:I tested the mileage and I dont find any changes before and after service, I get around 43 in city and 48 on highway which is pretty good for a bike in its class.
Thanks!
Hey guys! Ive been using this bike for 1 year now. Ive added K & N air filter with NGK spark plugs. Now the pick up has been increased with more smoother ride. No problems so far.
