Bajaj Wave - Cheap Utility Vehicle

When Bajaj came up with their gearless wonder in the form of “Wave”, I though I would check it out. Looks wise, the scooter is stylish. Its 110CC engine gives it enough power to carry two adults and some luggage in the form of medium-heavy bags placed in the front (between the legs). The maximum speed it can go is about 55 – 60 Kmph. Mileage – well, after 2 services, within city, the scooter gives around 50 km per litre of standard unleaded petrol. The wheel-base is sufficiently long – meaning, the distance between front wheel and back wheel is good enough for a stable ride. However, the front suspension could be strengthened because, on a big pothole, the suspension gets fully compressed and the rider tends to get all the shock on his hands. This is an area of improvement for this scooter. The space given under the seat is good enough to store a big helmet! However, the space given in front is so ill-built that it can hardly hold a small packet!! There are no accessories for this scooter – no crash guards, no basket or any other similar stuff. Even if you willing to shell out money for these, you would not find them!! This scooter does not even have a spare tyre – so if you find yourself with a flat tyre, be ready to push the scooter all the way to the nearest puncture-wala just like you would have done in case of a bike. The scooter’s center stand is not so easy to operate – not for ladies. So, the side stand comes handy. On cold mornings, the button start would not work without operating the choke. However, if you plan to kick-start this scooter on a cold morning, be ready to kick it several times before the scooter would start up. After managing to get it started, do not be surprised if it just stops! Repeat the exercise once or twice and viola, your scooter is ready to run.

On the whole, compare the prices of TVS scooty pep plus, Honda activa or any Kinetic scooter – this is cheap and reasonably efficient.
