I bought Bajaj Kawasaki Wind 125 from SK Wheels, Vashi in September, 2003. Before purchasing, I took test rides of almost all the available bikes at that time. This included Splendor, Pulsar, Caliber, TVS Victor but none of the bikes clicked in my mind and gave me that "Push" to buy.
While going from Vashi to Thane, I saw Winds hoarding near SK Wheels showroom and decided to test it. The staff of SK was very friendly and explained the features in details. I took the test ride and thats it. That was the perfect riding experience I had been wishing for. The height, riding quality, gear shifting, safety, pickup everything was just perfect.
Wind 125 was the bike I wanted for all these years and finally it clicked in my mind. I got it for 49K with all the accessories.
I rode the bike around Mumbai(as far as Badlapur, Borivali, Panvel, few times to Alibag) and It did not gave me any back ache after riding it for longer duration.
I also took the bike to Hyderabad and stayed there for almost 4 years. The bike was like my companion and I roamed around Hyderabad city, took it to various places in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Fuel economy was not that great but I always got above 50 which was quite good for me.
2 of my friends \ colleagues purchased this bike after test driving mine. Like me, they also got impressed with the bike and bought and still thank me even though I only recommended to just take the test drive:-).
After using it for 8 long years, I decided to sell it to a person who was searching for a good 2nd hand bike. After driving and testing with his own mechanic, he gladly bought it on the spot.
Pros -
Amazing pickup.
No shaking while riding on high speeds(I actually took her to 110-120)
Fifth gear gives u feeling of cruising.
Low maintenance(if you follow proper servicing schedule).
Ergonomic seat design.
Safe riding for the rider as well as pillion.
Never skidded in rains, muddy road, sudden breaking.
Wide rear tyre gave stability and safety mentioned above.
Wide seat and comfortable for a family riding.
Cons -
Fuel average never increased post 50-55.
Battery sucks. I had to replace it twice in Hyderabad.
My Tips -
Regular servicing(Dont just rely on the service center. Have a good rapport with a expert local mechanic.
Check Air regularly(I used to do it every 15 days).
Check Oil Level and use good quality oil.
Always fill petrol from a good petrol pump and go to the same every time. This is to avoid contaminated fuel. I used to fill petrol from a fixed HP station.
Do not raise unnecessarily.
I maintain speed of 50-60 and very rarely crossed 70 even on highways. The bike was a sheer riding pleasure and not a sport bike.
For 3 years, I dont have any bike. This month, I have booked Honda Shine after much discussions and testing Discover various models. Lets see how my new Honda Shine behaves.
