As Im a student right know, I needed a bike which is fuel economic, hav enough engine power and some gud looks, so I went to different showrooms of different bike manufacturers to hav a overall knowledge of market.
I also took test drives of many bikes which was suiting my budget such as super splendor, tvs star city, platina. And then I test drived Bajaj XCD 125 DTS-Si. I was quite impressed by the pickup, and the features. Then I asked about the price and I was surprised that it costed only Rs.39, 900 and It would cost Rs.46, 000 on road. I bought the bike immediately. The date was 10th March 2008.
I m fully satisfied with this machine as I havent got any major problem till now when its already 5000 kms old. All the 4 free servicing are over now.
Now I would like to mention some of the positive features of this bike:
1) This vehicle has a very high pickup as compared with the same class vehicles.
2) Engine power is enough for 2 persons with average weight to go in high speeds.
3) A cool LCD display which has speed meter, fuel meter, odometer and battery meter. It also has a good orange backlight.
4) In this bike u r getting a power of 125cc but u r getting a milage of a 100cc bike.
5) Gud suspension with 5 step adjustable SNS type dual springs.
6) Unique looks and aerodynamic styling.
7) Electric start facility.
8) LED tail lamp and powerfull headlamps.
9) Flexible signal indicators which can resist from breaking.
9) Micro-controller based ignition system with TRICS (Throttle Regulated Ignition Control System) with auto choke function. Due to this feature the bike has no problem in cold starts. It starts just a press of a button.
10) Very sensitive accelerator.
11) Due to the exclusive DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark - Swirl Induction) technology, in which the air-fuel mixture is rotated within the combusion chamber, resulting in complete combusion which leads to more milage and pickup. Till now this technology has not been used in any other bike !
12) The bike reaches 0-80 kmph within 10-12 secs. (Depending upon rider and road condition)
13) Dual sparks, resulting in highest combusion of fuel and reducing wastage.
14) Milage is around 65-70 on city conditions and around 75 on highways, if driven within the marked economic zone of the throttle.
Even with all this gud features it has some negative points also, but before reading this please keep in mind that this bike is very wisely priced as u wont get these features in this price !
1) Weight of the bike is comparatively low which increases the pickup but decreases stability.
2) The engine heats up very quickly and becomes very hot. So u will hav to check the engine oil regularly.
3) The seat is not much comfortable.
4) The wheel is slipery and the grip on road is not upto the mark. So u hav to take some special precautions and be carefull in taking turns and avoid harsh braking.
5) No disc brake and less powerfull rear brake, which makes it difficult in braking in high speeds with heavy load.
6) Some people including myself are facing a little difficulty to shift to 4th gear from 3rd gear some times, not all the time. I feel some times that there is an obstruction between the 3rd and 4th gears.
7) Maximum speed is as low as 87-90 kms per hr. So it is definately not for hardcore racers or stunters.
8) Very little LED tail lamp which makes ithe bike feel like a toy bike.
9) The looks r very trendy and attractive but r less strong and u hav to take care of the body so as to maintain the bike in a gud condition.
10) No engine RPM meter.
A brief note on my experience on milage of this bike:
The milage of this bike is pure dependent on the accelerator (throttle) which is super sensitive. If the acclerator is rotated and operated within the marked economy zone, the milage will be superb and unbelievably good but u will hav to compromise a little with the pickup. But if u rotate the accelarator beyond that mark position then u hav to forget about milage and watch the pickup. It will show you the full power of 125cc. Its amzing when I need to reach my destination in less time. I get a very high pickup while driving this way. So literally I can choose between milage or power while driving and thats the best thing possible !!
I m fully satisfied with this bike and I would advice this bike to those people who want the best balance between power and milage with a budget of a 100cc bike.in todays market !!
Hope I hav written a good review of Bajaj XCD DTS-Si
I hav mentioned all the points which I hav noticed and experienced till
now. And I believe that this product is truly a "Value For Money" and a
"Good Balance of Power, Milage and Looks".
It suits ur pocket nicely.
Thanks !
