Unhistorical Peak into Bajirao Mastani

From the moment the audience enters the Maratha court in session we are sure that it is going to be all that Sanjay Leela Bhansali stands for! And just when we are recovering from the grandeur of the set, the frame shifts to Bajirao(Ranveer Singh) claiming ‘peshwahi’ in all his manhood and warrior glory. With his Marathi accent, cracking dialogues and swagger, Ranveer and Bajirao seem to be one single identity, owning to the character and the movie.

The movie incorporates some epic battle scenes like the one where Bajirao alone sets out for a battle when he hears about Mastani’s arrest by his son. The battle on-field is in sharp contrast with a much complex domestic battle where headstrong Chimaji(Vaibbhav) and Ma Sahab(Tanvi) constantly clash with Bajirao who is seeking  a second-wife status approval for Mastani(Deepika), Bundelkhand’s half-Muslim princess.

Deepika is undoubtedly magnificent portraying Mastani. While her soulful eyes have done all the talking in the movie yet she seems a bit out of sync. On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra as Kashibai(Bajirao’s first wife) outshines in spite of the storyline not being central to her. Scenes wherein she shares grief with Ma Sahab and her last poignant meeting with Bajirao, telling him to stop visiting her before he marches for the battle, testifies her unparallel acting skills. It is in fact a visual treat to watch the contrast between Kashi and Mastani’s characters along with a little bonding and rivalry over Bajirao between the two. Their characters at times juxtaposes with Bhansali’s Devdas( Aishwarya-Madhuri equation) wherein pinga most likely appears to be a similar effort as was dola re by the director.

True that the movie enrages historians with facts and figures but it certainly is a perfect Bollywood drama with tons of emotions, larger-than-life cinematography and songs that hit the heart straight. By the end the movie brims with every possible emotion and passion coupled with an unfinished love which is not to be missed in this Bhansali –special.

At last I will say Star- Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Tanvi Azmi are Too good, Dialouges were way awesome in this picture, you can watch it with anyone and number of times.

So I truly loved bajirao mastani and I would love seeing it once again in theater. The motion picture was entirely engaging and was finished.
