A complete mockery of the Royal Peshwa times..

When I saw the songs Pinga and Malhari on TV I had lost my cool for the mockery SLB made through these songs.

Last weekend when there was not much to do my friends dragged me to watch this movie at INOX.

And there I was watching the overhyped Bajirao Mastani.

Note – I am a young Maharashtrian(and a Proud Indian ofcourse) and I have extensively read about Maratha history and visited their historic places.

Even though people raised questions before and after the release of this movie, SLB didn’t give any public apology for distorting historic facts and glamorizing the period drama. He just  gave a long “disclaimer” at the start of the movie and he was done!

I am pointing the flaws in the movie here –

  • Costumes of the ladies:

Peshvinbai was the Royal lady and she wore the traditional navwari saree usually the rich fabric – Paithani OR silk with jari border.

Here they have shown Kashibai(Priyanka C) clad in low waist ready made navwari of fancy material(even lavani dancers are better dressed) Her sarees(?) – the readymade garmernt expose more than they cover. She has been shown in a bad taste throughout the movie. Why did SLB glamorize the royal lady? What was the need? Just cheap gimmick to attract attention!

Even no other supporting characters have worn the traditional authentic 9 yard sarees( sad very sad)

*SLB & Team – You could have done some authentic research before attempting to create a period saga and not glamorize everything just to churn out a Bollywood masala movie.

Atleast you could have watch RAMA MADHAV Marathi movie(2014) directed by Mrinal Kulkarni. Its about the other generation of Peshwas – a true love story and everything is so authentic right from costumes, sets, music, acting, jewellery – every minute detail( Hats off to Mrinal Kulkarni – an honest director)*

Music –

Pinga song – Kashibai and Mastani had met just once – very formally with reluctance and awkwardness. Also Kashibai had joint pain most of her life so its unlikely she could move smoothly forget dancing!

The song is completely flawed and misplaced – it’s a cocktail of 2-3 marathi songs and addition of funny lyrics and the 2 ladies jumping and making some insane dance moves.

The mangalagaur is a function among maharashtrians where they sing and folk dance with some beautiful steps not like a lavani or a Bollywood dance( SLB is still under Dola re dola hangover!)

A scene before this song(again a dramatic made up scene) shows Kashibai talking badly to Mastani taking out her frustration and then gifting her a saree!

And later in the song Ksahibai is oh-so-happy to see Mastani walk in and join her dance.(hahaha  how funny- Priyanka’s expression are hideous and looks like she has a crush on Deepika! Even the lyrics are like that –some crap like meri gali aaj Chand aya…!

Malhari song -

No Peshwa would dance like crazy as shown here.and words like "waat lavli" is a lingo of today’s road side gundas .such words were never used then.

Acting -

Bad

Ranveer tries very hard to potray the charachter - succeeds at few places but falls flat at many

Priyanka - she looks less of Peshwinbai n more of a glamorised lady who fumbles to talk in marathi - over acting at times

Deepika - an expressionless plastic version

Good

People who u remember after the movie - Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar

phew.

save ur time n money n better watch NATSAMRAT the new release - Nana patekar gives a award winning performance

Also as mentioned earlier - please watch RAMA MADHAV movie on youtube to know the real Peshwas n their culture
