First of all let me tell you some of the factors to check before finalizing Movers and Packers (M&P) while moving from one city to another. 1. Are you looking for full load or part load?
In part load your household items will be loaded in truck with other’s household items. Usually 2-3 parties in one truck. Disadvantage is that goods are loaded and unloaded 2-3 times before reaching the final destination and also the delivery date ranges from 3-10 days.
Full load will be charged a bit more. But possibility of items not being damaged is high since loading and unloading happens only once. 2. Take quotation from major M&P and compare. 3. Make sure that loading and unloading charges are included in quotation. Else while unloading labors will ask for money. 4. Quotation doesn’t include insurance charge. It is charged over and above quotation. Insurance is 3 or 5 percent on the total value of goods. 5. Quotation doesn’t include service tax. It is charged separately. It is around 12.35. Please note service tax is on quotation and not on the total amount. 6. Also sometimes M&P won’t disclose that there is Octroi charges and Union Labor charges. Confirm this point first. 7. Ask directly for any hidden charges. Ask them to give in writing that final amount will include=(Quotations Insurance Octroi Service Tax+ Statistical Charge+ Union Labor Charge, if any)
If quotation is of 20k, be ready to shell 10k more. 8. Also one important thing, please visit their office once to confirm that they are not frauds. Note down the supervisors number for any issues.

Let me tell what happened in detail. I was looking to transfer my household items from Pune to Bangalore. Came across this movers and packers and filled the online form. 2 person came to my house. Talked very sweetly. Cleared all our doubts. They gave us a quotation of 24k for full load and promised delivery within 3 days. Ah, very cheap and timely delivery I thought. I asked for supervisor’s number and they said their supervisor is Amit and gave me the number. I was tempted and nearly made my mind to go with these movers and packers. But my mom, was not convinced. She asked me to visit their office once in Nigdi, Pune. Next day, I went to Transport Nagar, Nigdi.(Those who stay in Pune might know that there are 100s of packers and movers in this area) Mine was a surprise visit:) I called them once I reached near their office. To my surprise there didn’t exist any packers and movers with name tirupati balaji.
Their office was just a small room and had ad of various movers and packers viz jay movers and packers. There was some other person in office who talked sweetly. So I asked that person where is Amit, the supervisor. He said that there isn’t any person named Amit.(Gotcha, these guys were just agents and would dump our goods in some truck, who will take the responsibility for any damages/theft?)
I left and said them that I will get back to them.
