- this despite all the cosmetic changes is no different from the average saas-bahu serial and in fact even worse because it re-inforces certain stereotypes very strongly.
a. while it shows ritualistic tag lines before and end of the show regarding the ills of child marraiges, it has in effect glamourised it and continues to do so by showing all the little "sweet" scenes between Anandi and Jagdish.
b. By showing the Dadi as the only dark/grey character, they have in effect giving the message that sons and daughters are victims of tradition andparampara and their destiny is to feel bad but tolerate it nonetheless.
c. by not showing any respectable and amiable ways of challenging some of Dadis ways, it is also re-inforcing that the "only" way to change is to "rebel violently" through severance of relationships and by disrespecting the elder.
d. net net, it makes(again just like the saas bahu serials) only the women who are either scheming or cruel or responsible for victimising others in the family or the women are complete victims and their destiny is to only cry and bear it. but net net, it is the women who are the ultimate villains and ultimate victims. even the character of the teacher had to be sent away to prove it.
e. the men are either impotent or cowards or both but are loved and respected. Or they are immature, foolish who lacks impulse control and are usually the side kick of the central villainish woman character. this again is no different from the saas-bahu formula.
