Let us understand the true meaning of Democracy. It not only means ’’by the people.....’’, it also means FREEDOM. Like I have the right to choose my ruler, I should also be allowed to choose my life style, as long as I do not physically or mentally harm anybody.
In the same context if Fashion TV has hurt somebodies sentiment, all one needs to do is switch off or skip the channel. Not allowing 1 billion citizens to watch a channel because a particular quarter finds it offensive is misuse of power. I would consider broadcasting ministry’s action as a publicity gimmick to stay in the news.
I am not a Fashion TV fan nor I miss its omission but I surely feel claustrophobic when somebody tries to teach me how I should live.
Governing the worlds biggest democracy I agree is not the easiest thing to do under the present circumstances of a coalition party. However, to please a particular quarter we cannot allow anyone to encroach on our freedom.
I suggest to the Government that next time you find something offensive, before pulling the plug off please bother to ask us, the citizens. We cannot be taken for granted.
