Jungle home A home in The forest

There is a Small forest cottage 20Km from Bandipur National Park Called Jungle home.

They offer Accommodation at moderate rates.

The rates are not as cheap as the government forest accommodation but much lower that the luxurious resorts at Bandipur.

Jungle home is 15 Mins Drive from the Bandipur Forest office the place form where we board the safari busses. The road to Jungle home passes through the forest where there are animal sightings. We can see Elephant groups, Guars, Deer in abundance.

I visit Bandipur yearly twice. It is my favorite place to spend weekends. I love to spot Tigers and Leopards in their natural habitat. Mudumalai is the best place to spot tigers.

On the way to Jungle home which is located in the crucial elephant habitat zone in Mudumalai I spotted a leopard crossing the road. I felt lucky to see a wild cat on the road.

Jungle home is located at a village called Thorapalli after the Mudumalai forest check post. Food is also arranged on request.

Trekking is conducted by the Jungle home guide. He takes us into the jungle through the river that flows near jungle home. After walking 20 mins from jungle home there is a isolated lake where we can do fishing.

Elephants come to drink water in this lake. We spotted 2 elephants drinking water on the other side of the lake. We caught a big fish which would have weighed half a kg.

We lit fire near the lake and roasted the fish. We had a nice time near the lake. The view is excellent all throughout the trekking rout.
