Jai_Coer: this is my user id. Has anybody ever wondered what coer stands for?
Well there is no better way to reveal this fact then getting the opportunity to describe it in detail.
A few facts to be straightened out
Roorkee, mostly known for IIT, Roorkee(formerly Roorkee University) has one more engineering institute and it is known as College Of Engineering Roorkee( Ahh! My beloved COER).
Now that the mystery of the odd word ?coer? in my user id is solved, I guess I can move forward.
Location
Roorkee is a very small town situated on the border of new found state of uttaranchal. This was the geographic location of the place (for me it is situated in my heart. Reason being, this is the place of my two colleges and ??.u know wat , don?t u? ).
COER is located on 7th km mile stone on Roorkee-Hardwar road.
About COER
The journey that started with all the dilemmas and undeclared destinies of 240 students from all over the country in year 1999, successfully taken its first exit in year 2003. COER delivered its first batch and the off springs are growing rapidly and are associated with almost every known and reckoned name of market and education. (sorry vipul, for using your lines but cant help it)
As far as the infrastructure is concerned the institute got a good one. It is affiliated to UP technical University. The architecture of the buildings is very much inspired by that of IIT(R).The institute has gotten almost all the required amenities except a swimming pool( which I regretted till the very day I left the college, and criticized the management for that with all my night).
For aspiring students
Let me give you a picture of my days in COER.
Caution:don?t misinterpret anything.
Well you get up at 8:00 am (if you are a day scholar) or at 8:45 am(if you are a boarder), cause u have to enter the college gate sharp at 9:00 am(Until and unless you want to face a director call).
Did I forget to mention that you must be in complete prescribed uniform i.e. grey trouser, white shirt, tie, black shoes and blazer in winters.( At this point in time if you have mistaken it for a public school, I would like to clear the confusion that it is not really).
I think I am still forgetting something ?oh yes?and ur class schedules are submitted at the security office so don?t even think about leaving the college premise before schedule. Even if you try to do so that guard with ?Veerappan Moustaches ? won?t let you do so.
what is this some kind of a jail? if this is what coming to your mind then I would like to correct you. Yes all these restrictions are there and if one is looking for a place where he/she has to go only to write exams then this is certainly not the place. But if you wanna feel the true essence of an academic institute , you have it here.
That doesn?t mean that you would like each and everything going around, what I mean is that if it is bad you are gonna suffer and criticize it together, if it is good you are gonna enjoy it together .The key is Togetherness, as all the above mentioned restrictions give you an opportunity of being together.
Inside information including downsides
Teaching is good as long as you are willing to study, cause there is a set of performance parameters for teachers.
Except a few veteran teachers and few guest lecturers from IIT(R) all the other lecturers are not very much experienced. I wish management could spend more fund on this aspect.
Employment through campus was almost negligible, although more then 70% of the students from the class of 2003(first batch) are now very well settled in all parts of world. So the credit goes to institute only as this is the place where we built ourselves and this is where we built our characters.
All in all this is a good place to study infact one of the best among the private Engg. Colleges in UP and Uttaranchal. Moreover it has the advantage of being in the close vicinity of IIT(R).I myself has been benefited a lot due to this factor.
I will continue with a lil more inside information in the comment section.
