A group of 28 people visited Guhantara on 21.06.09, the location of the place is on Kanakapura Road, about 5-6 kms after Shri. Shri. Ravishankars Ashram, you have to take a right turn into a small Galli Road, however, large buses will find it a bit difficult to negotiate these small internal roads, it is ok for Tempo travellers and LMVs. The road is reasonably good and the management of the resort has put up a number of signboards which makes it easy to locate the place. However, after reaching the place we were in for quite a disappointment.
Even though it is advertised as an Underground cave resort, there is nothing underground about it. All the caves are artificially created, most of it is created above the ground, in fact I felt that all of them were above the ground, though the architects have tried there best to make it look natural, it is a clear give away.
The facilities available are abysmal. Lets go one by one. First the Swimming pool is barely a baby pool size. It is the size of about 30 x 20 length x breadth, cannot take more than 10-15 people in it at a time. The guards are all well behaved and the staff is courteous. However, they want you to pay a refundable deposit for everything. The billiards and carroms and Table tennis are tucked away behind the bar and the dance floor. The rain dance was most enjoyable for most people and has been aesthetically created. The mini water falls is well designed.
The Volleyball, cricket and archery are all to one side, swing, and childrens play area, etc, overall the management has chosen to make quick money without investing much as all these facilities, require hardly any investment. It is a good case study for any investor-businessmen on how to fool people and make money with a low investment and bring about a money churner in a legal way.
On top of it, if the arrows/bow or any other item breaks due to normal wear and tear the guards will not refund your money. Like the proverbial, "crow sitting on a branch and the branch breaking due to its own weight" "kaage kudlikku, rombe murilikku enu sambandha irodilla, " aadaru nimma jobu maathara light aagotte, usharagi irabeku.
Overall, it is worth only one visit and if you forego that sole visit you will not be losing anything. I would give it a miss if I were you. Probably the other resorts may compare favorably to this one.
The only saving grace was the food (vegetarian, and non-vegetarian) were of decent quality, however, even here they are open only between 1.30 pm - 2.30 pm and even while a few people were still eating, they started clearing the vessels and those who were eating had to make do with whatever was available as almost everything was exhausted and they did not get the proper meals.
