Has it ever happened to you that you wanted to surprise someone but ended up being surprised? I had this noble experience when a dozen of rotten premium alphonso mangoes reached one fine summer morning to my parent’s house.
A little rewind... my Mom love mangoes and she has this supernatural ability to pick up the ripest one. Thanks to her expertise, we were treated with the best and probably the cheapest mangoes from the market. We tasted the local ’’small-and-round’’ mangoes and fancied the alphonsoes.
Fast forward...we grew up and found ourselves in the time where the best services can be bought as long as they can be paid for. Contrary to my Mom, who doesn’t know how to shop and bargain online, I am a BIG supporter of the e-retail services. So to earn some Brownie points, I ordered a dozen of alphonso mangoes from bangoes.com (without using the touch/smell/bargain expertise of my Mom). Anticipating a big pat-on-my-back, I called home inquiring about the mangoes that I ordered... only to be informed that a dozen rotten mangoes have arrived at home early that morning. What followed was a routine lecture on old school vs. billion dollar e-retailing industry!
Armed with purchase power, a sent a feedback to the customer service of Bangoes.com. What followed was a surprise! Mr Anuj bang (of Prakash Bang & Sons), sent me an immediate reply apologizing for the inconvenience caused to me and my family (...and for the lecture that I had to listen from my Mom). A new box with dozen mangoes arrived at home a week later. I am yet to call home and tell Mom that these new things (e-retailing industry) WORK!!
