Sprawled at the end of Ambedkar road, in Bandra, is this restaurant, which claims to serve all manner of grilled food for the adventurous customer. Located near Club IX, this is a very popular, relatively new restaurant. Tapping the current popularity of "concept" restaurants, Barbecue Nation serves, for the price of Rs. 400 (+ taxes), 5 Nonvegetarian and 5 vegetarian starters, along with that days buffet menu. For vegetarians, the cost is Rs. 350 + taxes. All food is unlimited.
The starters are all grilled (hence the name), and are warmed at your table over a mini grill, which is embedded in a h ole provided for the purpose! The starters belong to various cuisines, moghlai, continental, asian, et al. You can ask for a repeat as many times as you please. The buffet food has salads, main course and desserts. The buffet is a mix of indian and continental. There is also a drinks menu, with beer, wine, other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.
On the day of my visit, the grilled potato starter was superb and a sublime gosht biriyani was served in the buffet. The menu is different for every day of the week, so if you visit on two consecutive days, there is no fear that you have to sample the same dishes. There is no separate food menu other than what is served on that day, so the customer has no other option.
My main grouse against this restaurant is that the food quality is not consistent. Although some of the food is great, the rest is quite ordinary, sometimes tasteless! Also the vegetarian menu is not very creative, and service of veg dishes is somewhat slow. The servers are polite and helpful. The ambience is very good, and there is good value for money as the food is unlimited. The concept is also quite attractive and interesting. In fact, there are a slew of similar concept restaurants opened in the city. Finally, Barbecue Nation is definitely worth a visit, but skip the previous meal, and loosen your belt a notch or two before you begin! Vegetarians may find the experience less gratifying
