I was quite impressed after my first visit to Barbequenation. It’s a nice boutique restaurant, located at Khar Bombay. It can seatonly about 100 people, so it’s very important that you make reservations wellin advance. Avoid the weekends, it gets very crowded, thanks to the priceRs.400 (plus VAT), this will ensure that you get 5 veg & non veg starters, a neatly laid out buffet with the standard stuff (soups-2, breads-4, curries-4, pasta-2, salads-5 and a decent spread of desert-10) with decent variety for theveg and non veg.
The food is above average but the best part is the way thestarters were served. You will have a little barbeque pit embedded at thecentre of every table (coal fired, which is inserted in the pit). The skewersare placed on top of these, where they place pre cooked starters, for you tofinish it as per your liking, along with a choice of rosemary, mint, orientalor lemon dressing. And if you don’t want to get your hands dirty the Stewartswill do everything for you.
I would strongly recommend the starters, they are very goodand they are unlimited, but the sad part is that you keep eating them and willnot be able to try much off the buffet.
Its a good place for a small group of friends to meet up and catch up onthings, nobody will try and hurry you up and you can take your own sweet time...... a good 2-3 hours.
I would suggest having red wine with the starters; my personal favorite is SulaDindori reserve. They also have a small but decent selection of entry level Frenchwine & hard liquor as well. A glass of Sula would cost you about Rs.200, and the bottle would be around Rs.1000. The bottle should be good enough for 3people. Beer would be about Rs.100 for a pint and a Jonney walker Black smallabout Rs.250 (not exactly sure about the price of this one).
One disappointment, they had kept both the red and white wine in the refrigerator, and we had to wait for some time to get the Red to room temperature. This wasthe only small disappointment, to a perfect evening. We spent close to 3 hoursat that place. I am already planning my next trip to the place…..
