Now where do I begin? I have been in Bombay for some years and just recently visited Barbeque Nation, the much talked about Place.
I had heard about BN almost from the time I started staying in Bomaby beacuse, if nothing else, I am a connosieur of a good eating-out experience. Barbeque Nation promised to be all that and much more.
I went to Barbeque Nation with a good idea of what I was supposed to get there. But knowing beforehand and actually experiencing it, are two very different things.
First things first. Barbeque Nation has a system. Rs 500 per head - unlimited snacks and a buffet dinner. The dinner menu is fixed regarding dishes, but the menu itself keeps changing each day. Anything above and beyond that comes out of the extra cash.
So one evening, me, my better half(I am not a feminist!) and my in-laws paid it a little visit. We got a little lost on the way, cause noone really seemed to know where Khar gymkhana is, and the Restaurant itslef is in the backlanes. But we reached thankfully, well in time for our reservations(That is a must! Go without a servation and you will have to join a long line of people outside).
Once inside, we found that all the cushy sofas around the corners were filled up. No matter, we were seated at a comfortable table(:) and all agog to share the experience. The ambience was cosy but understated - after all, you are here for the food! The centre of the table sported a gaping hollow, which we soon out was the place where the portable barbecue grill is placed. The waiter promptly enquired as to our tastes - 2 veg and 2 nonveg, and arranged for 2 green and two brown placesettings in front of us:)
Then the gastronomic delight began. They placed skewers of succulent meat and vegetable tikkis in front of us. 90% was cooked, we were supposed to cook the rest of the 10% of our dinner all by ourselves on the frill. I must admit, it was a novel experience, sitting in the middle of a poshrestaurant and grilling our own food. The replenishments kept coming.faster than we could finish them. There are these cute flags at every table that you turn down when you have had enough of the unlimited appetisers. We used them in about 30 mts(after all, some space had to be left for the main buffet dinner!)
The buffet itself consisted of a variety of dishes. Moghlai, thai, chinese, iranian, different countries vied for your attention and a place on your plate and palate. The dessert list boasted 6 different dishes and so many jellies and condiments that the mind boggled. Each dish was cooked to perfection and tasted divine.
Just one word of caution - make sure you have fasted for sometime before you make your reservations. You wouldnt want to miss out on a single item.
A full value for money, great dining, an altogether satisfying experience.
Burp!
