These days many of you friends might be getting these calls from untrained, illiterate & pushy Barclays telesales employees. Beware of any tricks they offer to simplify the processing of personal loan sanction.
Its a long read but worthwhile if you are planning to take a personal loan from Barclays. I had this bitter experience very recently. Though I have to blame myself to have taken it. Initially I was told that all they need is just a credit card statement to sanction the loan. When I provided that, they said they want 2 references.
I provided the names of my friends and to my shock I was told by my friends that they got a call from Barclays telesales lady instructing them what to say and what not to say. Then finally when I thought everything was done. I got a call from sales again asking me for my mobile bill, when I mentioned that I had a prepaid connection and also don’t have a landline, she asked to send across original electricity bill with a copy of ration card, which I did.
Later she said the loan request might get rejected due to unavailability of mobile bill which made me lose my temper as she didn’t mention this earlier. Later she told me that if I can bribe the disbursement team they would grant the loan, which horrified me. I asked her to cancel the request immediately and return all the documents.
She immediately apologized and said she’ll try her best to get the loan sanctioned. I had initially given 6 cheques of one bank as security which is a requirement. But later they told me to give 9 cheques and there was some miscommunication. I gave cheques of another bank and asked to return the 6 cheques given earlier.
Finally though my loan was sanctioned with some hidden, forceful insurance charges which were levied without my consent, I never received the 6 cheques & original electricity bill I had submitted.
The final shocker is I was told CHEQUES WERE TORN FOR SECURITY REASONS and the original documents have gone into the file and would not be returned.
I wish I could rate these guys in negative scores. UNPROFESSIONAL, CHEATS, PEOPLE WITHOUT CHARACTER, UNETHICAL, AGGRESSIVE, MISLEADING, the list can go on, but let me stop here and its time for you guys to think as I wouldn’t want even my enemies to go thru this experience- BEWARE
