Never Ending Torture - Barclay's Style

20 to 30 calls a day!! 40 to 50 text messages per day!!! this how Barclay’s tortures its customers!?!?! And that too a customer who has been making full payments most of the time. If I had even the slightest idea about the kind of (dis)service by Barclays I’d never have applied for the card at all...


To top it all - all the executives that I spoke to in customer care and collection - regarding this issue outrightly lied. Once an executive / team lead gave me a name and next time I call and ask for that person, surprise!!! there is no person by that name at all in the call center!!! Wow...what standards, I must urge other credit card companies to take lessons in Customer service from barclays.


That was the preamble, now some specifics:


I am  an unfortunate owner of a Barclay Gold Card. After sometime of owning this card, I came to know about Barclay Times Card, and I wanted to own a Times Card instead of Barclay Gold. I called up the customer care and informed them, subsequently I got the Barclay Times card. Post which I was informed that my Barclay Gold Card account is closed and all the balances on it have been transferred to my Times Card. There was a small balance of around 2000/- on my Gold card in the June statement which I wanted to settle completely.


But, since I was informed that my Gold Card A/c is closed and balances transferred to my Times card a/c I was not sure which card to make the payment against. Obviously I called up the (wonderful, enlightened, genius) customer care - not once but twice to clarify. Both the times they specifically mentioned NOT to make any payments against the Gold card a/c as its closed and make all payments against the Times card a/c. I calculated the full payment of Gold card plus the minimum payment on Times card and made the payment against my Times card as informed.


From that day the nightmare has started and has not stopped till date. On an average I get about 20 to 30 calls a day (I have the record of all calls) and about 40 to 50 text messages a day informing me that they have not received my payment and my card a/c is suspended.


I called up the customer care to clarify and I spoke to atleast 10 to 15 people in the customer care and collection dept, but the calls did not stop....then I stopped answering calls and stopped calling the customer care also, becuase I know very well that if I call and ask for Suvarna or Murtuza or anybody else they tell me ’there is no person by that name here’ and ’the manager is never on the floor and always on leave.


Fed up of receiving calls / making calls and explaining to them that I have made the payment, so I have cleared the full amount on my Gold Card a/c as per my last statement plus the fulll outstanding on Times card as per the current statement.


Again, this month I received my Barclay Gold Card statement with an outstanding of around Rs. 900/- (late fee + interest) and I have complained to RBI...awaiting their reply...
