Barclays Credit Card, Humbug

I Held a Barclays credit card, for which you cannot make your payment online, because the website has bug in it.


You cannot find a place where they have a drop box, because it will be in a remote places.And you will not be informed about a collection executive. even if you ask for them, they will take days to come collect your cheque.


While you make a cheque payment, they would ask you to write your mobile number on the reverse. I wonder for what damn reason they suggest the customer to do so


once I entered an invalid card number and dropped in a cheque and I was not called and informed about it, I was shocked to see my next month’s statement which had a late payment fee added along with the interest charges.


I tried to reach he customer service 60004444. This number is faulty number if you dial this number in the afternoon, it would say, your call is diverted, The Barclays customer service is busy assisting other customer, so please try again later. You will have to keep dialing the number constantly for more than 10 to 15 times, only then your call will be answered. Even if your call is answered it will not get passed the main menu.


The main menu is a language selection menu and no matter how many ever times you hit the numbers it will get struck there and kill the patience out of you.


After all these, Ever in my lifetime I have faced such an odd situation, I complained about the IVR and the exec simply said then how was the others able to reach us. I suggested her to try this number 60004444 from her mobile. She hesitates to do it.


I asked them the reason for making us write the contact number on the reverse of the cheque. They had no answer for that. And one manger in the floor said they don’t have the process of informing the customer about an invalid cheque, then why create a false expectation.


They said they cannot reverse the late payment charge and the manager said she would raise a request for the reversal and was committed a call back, and I insisted them to place my account on hold until this issue is sorted out. So that I wont be charged with another late payment fee. But she did not bother to do anything. I was waiting for their call back meantime I got another statement with one more late payment charge been added to it.


Again I managed to reach them and enquired about the request, they said its been denied. Unless and until you speak with the customer and get to know what actually happened, just by the agents documentation how can they deny a customer’s request. They not only denied the customer’s request, but they denied to server the customer better.


How do they expect an agent who picks calls to document all that we discussed about an issue? They should have spoken to me before they went ahead and denied it. And now since I was waiting for a call back, I was charged with two late payments which is Rs.300 each.


The managers who talked to me gave me lot of tensions. The tone that they used was taking me to the peak of frustration level and when you shout out of anger, they silently giggle and you could hear it clearly. The Barclays Customer Service is no wonder but a Zoo.


To be very Precise, Barclays is waiting for the customer to fall in their ditch so that they can utilize them the maximum. This is a worst experience that I had with Barclays and I wish no one face this issue. So please take my experience as a lesson and Beware of Barclays.


If at all if someone from Barclays happen to see this please call ICICI customer service and check out the way they respond to customer queries. I hold a savings account, a current account and a credit card with ICICI Bank. The service is amazing. What ever request you place they accept or deny they will call back the customer and ask their perception about the issue.


To add up, I would never ever recommend Barclays even to my enemy.
