Barfi surely is one of the best films to come out of Bollywood mainstream in recent years. Films featuring mentally or physically challenged persons are almost non-existent among commercial Hindi productions. In that respect, Barfi is a bright exception. In this film, Priyanka Chopra plays the role of a mentally retarded girl and she did it extremely well, ably supported by RanbIr Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Jishu Sengupta, Aashis Vidyarthi and others. Ileana DCruz was also convincing in her part.
It is a very moving story revolving around Ranveer and Priyanka. Priyanka’s helplessness and Barfi’s attachment to her can turn anybody emotional. But to the credit of director Anurag Basu the film never gets too sentimental.
Pritam’s music is better than what he usually offers. The hilly, cool ambience of Darjeeling also adds to the charm of this film. The comic touch provided by the inimitable Saurav Shukla is quite memorable.
