Last minute controversy, that Murphy is going to sue Barfi, kept me on tenterhooks, whether movie will be screened at all. Thank god the controversy was sorted out by the producers UTV with the company concerned. Ultimately Murphy was incorporated in song Murphy on mummy gone which sounded hilarious and therefore positive for the brand rather than negative.
The movie Barfi is a triangle love story, if one desires to term it. Barfi, an orally handicapped character potrayed by Ranbir Kapoor is in love with Shruti Sengupta ( Illeana Cruz ). Jilmil an autistic character is played by Priyanka Chopra. How a simple love story translates into a great movie is to be watched on the big screen to be believed.
I was reminded on Chalie Chaplin antics in the silent movie era while watching Barfi, and it would be obvious with the antics of the hero. The movie is enhanced by music rendered by Pritam, Camera work and crisp editing. The choice of the location in Ooty & Darjeeling provides the visual impact which is pleasing on the eyes of the beholder.
Priyanka as an autistic Jhilmil has played her deglamourised role pretty well, I wont be surprised that she maybe in the running for acting awards for the year. Rockstar Ranbir too has potrayed his role to perfection with shades of humour in motion and emotion. The dessert of the movie is obviously Ileana who has held her debut Bollywood performance with aplomb. After two year of dishum dishum movie, a romantic comedy movie comes as a fresh breath of energy to cinegoers.
Hope the upcoming movies Heroine, Talash, etc will carry forward this new trend. I would give 4/5 for this movie and hope you too will enjoy the dessert.
