Journalist turns a Spy - The Adventure in Basra.

Basra Mein Hungama: (The Adventure in Basra)

I am fan of Spy thriller and murder mystery movies. I had watched many movies many movies in this category. I remember one of finest series in this category is “James Bond” series based on the works of Ian Fleming. But as a reader of Hindi, I like to read Sir Surender Mohan Pathak novels.

His novels are mostly murder mystery or thriller but during 60’s and 70’s, he penned some spy thriller novels also. Recently, I read one of spy thriller of Sir Surender Mohan Pathak. The 64th novel, “Basra Mein Hungama (The Adventure in Basra)” which was released in 1974 comes under the series of “Sunil” but not in murder mystery. “Basra mein Hungama” is spy-thriller novel, in which Pathak  Sahab presented his famous Journalist “Sunil Kumar Chakravarty” as a spy.

Now I am straightly come to the story. The center theme of this story is – defection of an officer of Pakistan Intelligence Agency and to get the protection and shelter in India. Colonel Maksood Ahmed, Deputy Director of Pakistan Intelligence Agency wants to defected from Pakistan due to fear of death sentence which can be given on behalf of bad performance during the Bangladesh revolt. He wants to take shelter and protection in India. He asked Kahira based CIB officials to meet Sunil and put proposal in front of him for defection. Sunil reached Kahira and met Maksood Ahmed.

Sunil does not believe that the Deputy Director of Pakistan Intelligence Agency want to do defected. Maksood Ahmed gave a list to CIB official to get the trust of Sunil. CIB official given go ahead to Sunil. Sunil, agreed with the proposal of Colonel Maksood Ahmed to get the shelter in India.

But Colonel Maksood Ahmed put a condition in front of them. His condition was that Sunil have to receive her wife Praveen from Basra and bring her to Mumbai safely. Sunil agreed for his condition. Sunil reached Basra and met Praveen.

Praveen was already informed with the visit of Sunil to take her safety to the journey to India. When Sunil saw Praveen, he was flatted with the beauty of Praveen. He thought how such a young and beautiful girl can be wife of old Colonel Maksood Ahmed. Sunil arranged for the safely exit of Praveen from Basra. But at the final time, Praveen was captured and arrested by Pakistan Intelligence Agency and under house arrest in Basra central Jail.

Now, Sunil planned to pick out Praveen from Basra Central Jail. He succeeded to pick out Praveen from Basra Centrail Jail in daylight from the security of hundreds of soldiers. Sunil had taken the help of Adnan Ubedi, a new friend of hot Praveen in this adventure.

Sunil handover Praveen to CIB officials in Kahira and left for India. But, Sunil was kidnapped by Pakistani spies from flight. Here Sunil met his old rival, an agent of Pakistan Intelligence Agency, Abdul Wahid Kureshi. Sunil had already faced him in his last adventures “Hijack” and “Pakistan ki Haseena.”

Abdul Wahid Kureshi was very cruel and had knowledge of lots of torture tricks. Kureshi wants the information of Colonel and his wife. After some hands of torture, Sunil breakdown and told the address of Colonel Maksood Ahmed and His wife Praveen.

The story of this novel is not ends here. After this many thrilling scene will come in front of eyes and forced you to think about the thriller actions of Hollywood movies. The plot was woven around international affairs where investigative journalist turns to spy.

Sunil worked for CIB as a special agent in such novels. The sequence of incidents presented in fast-paced manner and you will not feel that it is a Hindi pulp fiction book.

The story is full of thriller and adventures. The presentation of story is unbeatable and no one ever presented like Pathak sir. I will not recommend this book to all of friends but I will say you need not any recommendation to read such a classic spy-thriller by such a writer Sir SMP.

After reading summary of story, I don’t know you can wait for a minute. I know that review is not well like others members but I know I presented a special spy-thriller novel in front you.

Read it and feel, what King of Hindi pulp fiction writes.

Regards,

Rajeev Roshan.
