Good old Aunty

I’m a bit of a news junky, and I wouldn’t be a happy lady if I didn’t get my daily fix of news and everything that’s going on in the world.

I buy two daily newspapers (not the Sun!) and like to keep myself well up to speed on current events.

The web is another way I get all the latest and breaking news, and out of the hundreds of news services available online, my own particular favourite is still good old Aunty herself, the BBC.

Their site is very well laid out and presented, and best of all, it’s very easy to use.

You get all the latest news of the day, and there is a link that takes you straight to their breaking news section, where you get all the hot news long before it reaches the print editions of the newspapers.

If you want to look up something specific, they also have a good search facility to take you quickly and simply to what you want to read, and there is a comprehensive A to Z index as well.

They claim to update their news on a minute to minute basis. I’d be a bit dubious about that claim, but of all the news sites I’ve used, this would certainly be one of the most frequently updated around.

The site isn’t just about getting the latest news though.

There are plenty of other interesting links as well, such as sections on health, nature, gardening, history, and one especially for the kids.

Whatever your favourite interest or hobby, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find something of interest to you here.

They have a very good feature called WebWise, that gives you very helpful tips about new websites to visit, downloads, freebies, and anything else that is new on the Internet.

Another current feature is called Curious Gardeners. This takes you on a virtual tour of some of the countries most beautiful gardens, and makes a welcome change from looking out the window at the shambles in my own.

There is also links to the local BBC stations in your own area of the country, and as well as this, you can even tune in to any of the BBC radio channels online while you are surfing around the place.

And you can look up their comprehensive TV guide if you want to know what’s on the box.

There is a chat facility as well, but I’ve never actually tried this, as I don’t really frequent chat rooms that much.

And for all you sports fans out there, the sports section is excellent.

You can even look up the weather forecast for your own area, that gives you the current outside temperature, long range predictions, and so on.

If it’s news and comprehensive coverage you’re looking for, there’s not too much wrong with good old aunty.
