Walk and Talk

Beetel Walk Phone is introduced to Indian market by Bharti Teletech ltd. It’s a cordless phone having some unique features and very compact in size. Colour of my phone is oxford blue and may be the most beautiful one in the today’s Indian market.

Like any other cordless phone, this one also has a base unit and a handset. We get an adaptor as an accessory to get 9V power supply from the main line. Please note that it does not have the features of a speakerphone.

Cordless telephone is one of those wonders of modern life that has made life easier. With a cordless phone, one can talk on the phone while moving freely in the house or working with the other hand. Cordless phones gives everyone cell phone freedom within the privacy of their own homes or even in the office. Limitations are continuous power supply and range.

Some special features of this phone –

25 channel autoscan – Walk Phone automatically selects the best channel available which deliver crystal clear sound. The handset also has buttons to manually select a clear channel. For domestic use normally sound is clear and there is no need to select a channel for clear sound. Ofcourse there may be disturbance due to radio wave from TV etc.

Any Key Pick-up – To receive a call one has to press the talk-button on the handset. But in case of this walk phone any button (0 – 9, * & # ) on the handset can be pressed for conversation.

Multi handset configuration – This unique feature enable you to use three additional handsets. So, four handsets may be used with the support of one base unit. This is an ideal feature phone for small office or departmental phone. In my residence, single handset is good enough.

Other features –

Tone to Pulse switchable / Multi-channel auto scan – 46/49 MHz / 10 groups memory with 16 digits (for each handset) / 16-digit last number redial with auto line break function / Low battery warning tone and visual indication / Out of range warning tone / Mute key on the handset / Ringer On and Off key at handset / Handset to handset line transfer (in case of additional handset option) / paging to locate the handset when the handset is not on base unit.

Handset operates by a Ni-Cadmium Battery. There is power shutdown protection if battery is low at Standby mode for more than 4 minutes to avoid over drainage of battery. During low battery, the ‘battery low’ LED will flash and the warning tone will generate while handset is in ‘Talk mode’.

Life of fully charged battery –

About 8 hours when on talk mode (in use)

About 7 days in standby mode (not in use)

Precautions –

  1. Ensure steady power supply. Like all other cordless phone, this also requires power supply.

  2. Clean charge contacts of base unit and handset with a soft dry cloth for proper charging of battery. Cleaning frequency may be once in a week incase of high humidity and dusty area.

  3. Be sure charge new battery atleast for 10 hours.

  4. While changing the battery do it within 10 seconds otherwise memory will be lost.

  5. The base unit to be connected to 9 V DC / 150 mA unit AC adaptor. Better to use the adaptor supplied with the phone.

  6. Place the phone in place away from dust, smoke or vibration. Do not keep it in damp place. It is better to place it away from electrical appliances.

A cordless telephone is a combination of telephone and radio transmitter / receiver.

( The Base Unit is connected to the phone line through a standard phone wire connection and electric supply. As far as the phone system looks just like a normal phone with the antenna. The base receives the incoming call as an electrical signal through the phone line, converts it to an FM radio signal and then broadcasts that signal.

( The handset receives the FM Radio Signal from the base unit. Converts this radio signal to an electrical signal and sends it to the speaker, where it is converted into the sound. In talk mode, the handset broadcasts voice through a second FM radio signal back to the base. The base receives voice signal, converts it to an electrical signal and sends that signal through the phone line to the other party.

The base and handset operate on a frequency pair that allows talking and listening at the same time. This is known as duplex frequency.
