'Benetton Sport' woman eau de toilette review

Disclaimer- How a particular perfume might work on my body will not be the same on others’ skin & vice versa. The sensation of scent & the working of the olfactory nerves are mysterious. Please test any perfume on yourself before purchasing it. I love floral scents. I can’t help it; my nose is old fashioned & be it soaps, shower gels, body lotions, etc.; I get high when they smell of roses , gardenia & narcissus (my favs.), lilies, jasmine, peonies, lavender & violets. Besides, MY SKIN takes in floral perfumes really well. If I’m looking for perfumes that are sweet, fruity or woody; they’ll need to have a floral note somewhere to make the scent stand out & last on my skin.

‘Benetton Sport’ for women came across to me by accident…………..& maybe by a bit of luck. This was an impulse buy from a small run-down store where all the perfumes had been labeled ‘half-off’. ‘Benetton Sport’ woman was the only decent smelling fume out of all them. And no, in spite of my given disclaimer, I did not test it on my skin before buying. I had just graduated out of high school & was beyond excited that I was getting something other than the usual ‘Davidoff Cool Water’.

The packaging is neither cute nor attractive; instead it’s plain and simple, but yet nice looking. It consists of a sturdy 100 ml (3.3 fl. oz.) glass bottle encased by a bright red rubber cum plastic covering, with basic white letterings and the UCB logo on the cap. Although the glass packaging does make this eau de toilette heavy to carry around in your everyday handbags, it is literally unbreakable; thus enabling people to carry it around safely in their gym bags, school satchels, etc.

‘Benetton Sport’ woman is under the ‘floral green’ genre of scents. The top notes consist of: Mandarin orange, Sicilian bergamot & basil. The base notes include: amber, sandalwood & Virginia cedar. The first whiff I get when I spray it on is a mixture of orange & some herbal scent. Within 30 minutes or so, the orange is no more & I get a heady smell of basil & bergamot. Although the two herbs are pretty strong, they don’t annoy me, but make me feel as though I’m on an expedition at the Forks woodlands (Twilight fans will get what I’m saying here). It calms down within an hour or so to still smell of grass and herbs, only now much less obvious. After around 3 hours, I get a collection of scents from bergamot, basil & cedar. For some reason I don’t get amber & sandalwood at all on my skin. The overall sensation the perfume gives you is that of freshness & water- the kind of scent that surrounds your bathroom when you’ve come back from a swim or a long day at the beach, and have showered with ice-cold water & a herbal soap like ‘Hamam’ or ‘Medimix’.     The entire scent lasts for not more than 5-6 hours, so re-spraying is necessary. I would suggest this for work, the gym, school, picnics, casual dates etc. (mainly ‘everyday’ events). I wouldn’t personally reach for this if I was going somewhere fancy.

I had got this for around R.O. 7 i.e. approx. Rs. 700. The price may be cheaper now since the fume was released in 2001.

Final grade- B+, great for everyday use. Wish it was a bit more long lasting though.
