If you are interested in animations or in VFx then you have to learn it form the base which is
frame .Frame editing means photo editng . Similarly if you know about frame editing then in video you can easily edit by editing frames as in 1 second a normal videos shows 24 frames.
There are several softwares you may know
One of them is Photoshop, and it is common for photo editing and I think it is the first step of self learning in video graphics.
Then one should learn by using Sony’s product Sony vegas Pro or any of any version like Movie Platinum Hd.
Then one should come to know Adobe After Effects of any version.
Then finally you would have experience in VFx
But for creating 3d models and rendering them into videos you have to use and learn Autodesk Maya or Autocad.
