Tales from the past

Its been quite a while now that I’ve been playing computer games, so lots of my favorite games are quite a few years old, don’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of them or find them to date back to the days when win 3.11 was the’in’ OS to have.

To begin with I like the following type of games:

  1. War Simulators

  2. Flight Simulators

  3. Role Playing

  4. Simcity types.

I’m sorry but I’m not one for car racing games, arcade games(except Duke Nukem 3D) or other card games and such.

Well so now lets get on with the count down(not up)

Number 10 spot is Roller coaster tycoon build a theme park and watch all the rides and take care of all your parks needs.

At 9th place is Krush kill and destroy a futuristic war simulation.

8th spot finds Caesar III build yourself the roan empire and try and become Caesar himself.

At 7th spot is Wing Commander III – Heart of the tiger one of the best interactive movie cum space flight sim games around.

At 6th spot is Simcity 2000/3000 both are equally good/bad and the concept was pretty good for a while, but then gets boring.

At the 5th spot is Duke nukem 3D, a very exciting and different shot’em up game, with lots of extras thrown in like jet packs, swimming, and yeah all the sexy babes dancing all over the place who also you can blast into dust.  Plus all the special effects where u can flush the loo and also blow it up leaving jets of water shooting all over the place, visit night clubs and see the action, the ending is classic where u blowup the alien’s head and then crap down it.(the game has a 18 rating on it for obvious reasons)

At 4th place comes in Tiberium Sun a 3D war simulation game from westwood is a much faster game than its predecessors but has better graphics.

At 3rd place would be Command and Conquer Red Alert a slightly improved version of the first command and conquer.

At 2nd place would be Command and Conquer the father of all war simulation games.  Allies v/s the Axis powers nothing like mining tiberium and building up the ultimate army and the decimating your opponents.

My all time favorite game is Strike Commander, a Dos based game probably released 10yrs ago! it has one of the most realistic fighter plane simulations I’ve ever played before or since then.  The story line is excellent, and each mission is crucial and the game gives you everything from dog fights to land targets to sea targets.  Start with an F-16 and go on to pilot an F-22.  Really awesome game in every respect.  I’d still be playing it if only Windows 98 was a bit more Dos games friendly.  if anyone knows of the windows version of the game do let me know.
