Q1: What is the story of Bhagyadevatha?
A1: An unsettled cable TV operator decides to marry a girl for money. The girl’s family doesn’t manage to get the money and the girl suffers after marriage, until she wins a lottery. And I am told that we are not supposed to tell the complete story which is any way very predictable.
Q2: What is your opinion about the story and screen play?
A2: The story is pretty old and the theme is quite outdated. There are many faults one can identify easily in the screen play.
Q3: The story looks very old and outdated. Then how do you think they managed to present the film as an entertaining one?
A3: The answer is Sathyan Anthikad. The director is a brand. We will remember many of his excellent films past. Lately we did fear that the director lost the magical touch. Don’t we? Despite a weak storyline, the Satyan Anthikad touch was there in each frame. A village where people live in religious harmony, there struggle to live upto the demands, happiness and betrayal in personal relations…yes, we can see the feel good factor in the movie. That is why, despite being a predictable storyline we enjoy sitting through the film. The small world of happy people. ‘What we all need is our every day rice and some fish curry’ a dialogue from the film well establish the Sathyan Anthikad philosophy.
Q4: How is the performance of Jayaram, the hero?
A4: Jayaram is excellent in the movie. After the surprise hit ‘Veruthe Oru Bharya’, Jayaram needed another hit to back his claim to the superstar category and ‘Bhagyadevatha’ become the ‘Bhagyam’ (Luck) for Jayaram too. I never get bored watching Jayaram onscreen and his presence only added merit to the film.
Q5: How is the leading actress Kaniha?
A5: Tell you frankly, I learned the actress’s name after watching the movie, but Kaniha did give a matured performance. Somehow she gave the impression of Gopika. She is here to stay.
Q6: Other cast? How was their performance?
A6: In Sathyan Anthikad films, even the supporting actors get memorable roles and this film too is no different. Let it be Nedumudi Venu, KPAC Lalita, Mamukoya, or the new faces (for me) narein & Samvrutha, they all had well conceived characters.
Q7: Music & Choreography?
A7: Music was peppy but impressive. Typical Ilayaraja style music which well suits the village set up of the film. Songs are pictured quite well.
Q8: Cinematography & visuals?
A8: Very good.
Q9: Rasathanthram, Vinodha Yathra, Innathe Chinthavishayam, Bhagyadevatha…can you tell your preference in order?
A9: It is very difficult. I have to watch the first 2 films again to have a latest update but I can say it is in par with Rasathanthram and Vinodha Yathra. Those two films had better theme to handle but the presentation could have been better. Here, the presentation was excellent, but the theme was quite old and the screen play was quite loose. This film is much better than Innathe Chinthavishayam.
Q10: To whom you will recommend the movie and to whom you don’t recommend it?
A10: One looks for light entertainment set in a village, on family background it is a perfect movie. You will not felt like cheated. A movie which we may wish to watch with family! For people who looks for serious films or a film which the heart it is better to give it a miss.
