Director Sneha Taurani must be lauded for her effort.
Music and dance films in Bollywood are rare. Delivering them in the correct manner is all the way tougher. Bhangra Paa Leappeals you with its fresh and entertaining approach for the most part of it. However there are moments that take a toll on you and the overall impact suffers.
PLOT
A student at Khalsa College, Amritsar, Jaggi Singh ( Sunny Kaushal) , a pro at Bhangra dance is struggling to find a female partner who can match up with him to be able to make a show at the inter college youth festival. The winning team will get a chance to perform in London. Simi Kohli ( Rukshar Dhillon) , a master Bhangra dancer crosses his path by chance and Jaggi is immensely happy. But as fate would have it, she belongs to the rival college GNDU.
PERFORMANCE
Sunny Kaushal who exhibited impeccable sense of skill in Gold, here also strikes gold. He is brilliant. In whatever he does in his flamboyant avatar, he is a winner. He makes you believe in his character flawlessly. The way he performs Bhangra, you fall for him. He is a born Bhangra artist, it seems. So full of enthusiasm and zeal. Also, since he has a double role, he exudes the right amount of maturity and youthfulness in both his roles.
Rukshar Dhillon in her debut stint also makes a confident appearance. Her character is bubbly, bold, smart, and intelligent. The makers have also made sure that her character is etched out nicely where she has a progressive say in the plot. Infact, her character has a bigger heart than her male counterpart, and that’s where Rukshar wins you over.
Parmeet Sethi and Sheeba Chadha in their brief acts make you believe in the plot, because of the faith value they carry.
Shriya Pilgaonkar in a special appearance is also very charming. She brings in trust in the film. Her character is written with purity.
