Truly Bheja Fried!

Star Cast: Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay, Suresh Menon, Minisha Lamba , Amol Gupte.  Director: Sagar Ballery.

Expectations from this movie are high as this is a sequel to the much  acclaimed and successful movie Bheja Fry which came way back in 2007  sans any buzz but soon became everyone’s favourite. The main protagonist  , Vinay  Pathak  is retained while the rest of the star cast is  different. This time it’s  the versatile Kay Kay instead of Rajat Kapoor  who confronts our favorite  on-screen character Bharat Bhushan.  The  Production values and the budget of this movie is bigger than the  previous one but certainly not better.

Coming to talk of the storyline, it is simple and amateurish. The  script lacks the required punch. The plot revolves around Bharat Bhushan  and Ajit Talwar played by Kay Kay, a business tycoon who can do  anything to save his kin.

The first half of the movie shows Bharat Bhushan’s adventures on the  cruise trip on which he is invited by reality show organizers as a  reward to his win. His antics on the cruise are quite funny but are not  enough to save the film. But the film completely loses steam in the  latter portions of the second half.

The entire track of amol gupte is far stretched and boring. The climax also seemed to be a bit offtrack.

Now talking about the performances, Vinay Pathak  yet again steals  the show and provides a heart warming perfomance. But mind you, this  isn’t even close to his mind blowing performance that he delivered in the  first Bheja Fry movie. Kay Kay is quite compelling in his act and  delivers a good performance. The confrontation scenes between him and  Vinay Pathak are the highpoints of the movie. Suresh Menon as Bharat  Bhushan’s friend is alright but Ranvir shorey’s presence is missing who  had delivered a marvelous performance in the first part. Minisha Lamba  has very little to do yet she leaves an impact.  Amol Gupte , an ardent  R.D Burman fan in the movie is totally wasted. In fact his part is quite  irritating. The rest of the cast provides able support.

The movie also lags behind in the music department except one song  ‘ORaahi’ which comes in the end credits.  It’s hummable and has been  sung passionately by Vinay Pathak himself. Background score is alright  and matches industry standards.

Direction by Sagar Ballery is not upto the mark. It lacks novelty.  Also the screenplay is quite erratic.  Cinematography by Parixit Warrier  is eye -catching. The scenes on the cruise and the island are well  captured. Editing by Suresh Pai is loose and needs to be tightened  specially towards the climax.

All said and done, Bheja Fry 2 is funny in parts but fails to match  it’s predecessor. Watch it only for Vinay Pathak and Kay Kay’s  performances or else watch Bheja Fry first part again instead on Dvd.
