SpInE cHiLLEr........

FILM:Bhoot

CAST:Ajay Devgan, Urmila, Seema Biswas, Victor Bannerji, Rekha, Tanuja and Nana Patekar.

DIRECTOR:Ram Gopal Verma

GENRE:Horror

LENGHT:110 mts

RAM GOPAL VERMA is back.......and how!He once again proves that he is the saviour of the HINDI FILM INDUSTRY, coz he is the only film-maker who has the guts to make and experiment with different kind of cinema........be it, SHIVA, RANGEELA, KAUN, SATYA, COMPANY and now the much-talked about BHOOT.Though I am not much of a horror movie buff......i loved BHOOT, but I must also admit that I found BHOOT damn scary..........to the extent that at one point(when the watchman is shown dead)i was on the verge of running from the theatre.......no exaggeration.I was really sacred, so that way RGV has succedded in making a genuine horror flick.Weak-hearted people should definitely watch the film at their own risk......

STORY:I’ll probably not go into the story, coz by now most of the people either know it or will not be interested in knowing it as it will kill the curiousty.

WHY I LIKED THE MOVIE:

ACTING\STARCAST:The film was perfectly cast.We got to see some of the best talents of Bollywood share the screen, together.URMILA(SWATI)gave a very controlled performance of a woman possessed by a ghost, not once did she over-act or go over-board.......i think none of today’s actress could have done the role of SWATI with so much conviction.AJAY DEVGAN(VISHAL)......as Swati’s husband also leaves a mark, giving the right kind of expressions at the right time.NANA PATEKAR(LIYAQAT QURESHI)as the inspector was quite funny......for the first time in my life I liked his acting.VICTOR BANNERJI(Psycatrist)and SEEMA BISWAS(Bai)were awesome too......wish we could see more of these two talented artist.REKHA as the tantrik was allright......but her make-up was real bad, she herself looked like a bhootni.TANUJA and FARDEEN KHAN were passable.BARKHA MADAN as the ghost looked really very scary.

DIRECTION:The film was very well treated, executed and shot. There was never a dull moment in the film......and the interest was maintained throughout. The best thing about the film was that inspite of it being a film about a ghost......the director made the film look beleivable. He made the film look scary with the simpleset of things. Also every actor had a well etched out role......and was brought in, when needed. The climax was bit of a let down......as if the director was in a hurry to end the film. But otherwise a very good effort by RGV.

MY FAVOURITE SCENE from the film is when Urmilla sleep-walks......and kills the watchman, and Ajay Devgan is completely unware of it......and also the beach scene. They were extremely well shot.

BACKGROUND MUSIC:DWARAK WARRIER and SALIM-SULAIMAN have done an amazing job in giving that scary feel\effect to the film. The sound of the door-bell and lift......and the background muic does make you jump out of your seats.Technically also the film was excellent......and on par with the best.

THERE ARE NO SONGS:Finally someone made a hindi film which has no songs\dance.Such a welcome releif. There are some films and stories which really don’t need the inclusion of songs and Bhoot was exactly that kind of a film.......coz it takes away the interest which was generated in the film. The lenght of the film was also a plus, it was just 110 mts long.

I think BHOOT is a great film considering the quality of horror films being made in India.......it is worth a watch, but you will enjoy the film only in the theatre coz that is where the whole atmosphere is created.Watch it......and get scared.
